Just got a text from Laubman & Pank.
"Your eye exam is now overdue at Laubman & Pank. Please book now -------------"
Is it just me? Or do others think this is pushing the limits?
It sounds like I'm obliged in some way to have an eye test when they say I should. I'm sure there's no requirement any where for people to have eye tests, unless it's for something like drivers licenses or work related matters. None of these apply to me

Are you are a regular 'patient' with them? If so then they are keeping your eyesight as important. If for some reason you went blind, then someone would find a way to charge them with neglect.

I've been getting the same from OPSM for years, I refuse to go back to them just because of the way they push.

Also there should be an unsubscribe option but there isn't one on the emails or the text messages.

These days I never give my phone number or email to any retail style shop, sometimes I give a false number just to shut them up, pity the person that has that number.

The eye check consultation will be bulk billed, it's their way of keeping up their government sourced revenue.

I'm only familiar with the outdated trade practices Act in which section 54a pertained to pressure selling. And while the wording has changed for consumer Law 2003 the underlying fact remains that once you say "No", it becomes a crime to continue selling. You can record both and send it to the ACCC.

Just a cheeky scare tactic, making it sound like a dire need.
not as bad as my previous dentist, where they used to make sure you're booked for your next appointment (tooth clean) before you leave the one you're at.
they'd much rather keep a steady stream of income than leave it to customers who'll not come for a visit till something is up.

They're pushing it Mike, free to you but they claim off the gov, I just ignore them. I did recently go in for reading glasses (OPSM) as after 5 years my old frames were US, the girl said I had near on 20/20 vision but they still tried to sell me driving glasses and whatever. I just get the cheap frames as they're only for home, no need for over priced Chinese made designer frames for this old head.
The new thing once they have you in is a free hearing test, I said no as my hearing is perfect but I got the hard push because it's free. Yep result was hearing is perfect, but another claim on the gov we all have to pay, well not me as I'm out of the work force now.

It's pushing for business obviously but they also check in your eyes for any abnormalities. That's the retinal photo they take.
My Mum found out too late she had a melanoma in her eye. She had her eye removed and 20years later died from 2ndry cancer.
There are other eye diseases that are preventable if caught early if not you go blind.

It's free and if you stay with the same optometrist they can check with past scans.

I get a reminder from Specsavers to have a check up. There's an unsubscribe link.

I like having the check up. I like to know what condition my eyes are in.

I had laser surgery 25 years ago to correct short sightedness. It amazed me then how good my eyesight turned out, and it amazes me still that I have better than 20:20 vision. Such a good thing.

Yes I've no objection to having the check up, I agree it's a good thing.
But I do object to being told I HAVE to have it NOW.

I appreciate the reminders as it is upto me to react or not.
Fortunately on 2 occasions Specsavers optometrist identified a ptyrigium successfully removed. Yesterday due to extensive examination based on a suspicion of an issue a very small hole was identified in my retina this is common in old farts and all that have had heavy blow to an eye. As a kite and SUP foiler hard to wonder how this could happen
One more benefit, at my annual skin check a melanoma was identified in its early stages resulting in a positive result from a biaopsi then removal, now all good.
Is all this a con, I'll leave it to all to consider - I am ok with it.
Age creates issues but more leisure time so look after yourself when younger for a longer time on the water.
