I reckon since Facebook got really popular, some of the car, bike and winsurf forums I go on have slowed down and seem quieter.

Well not killed, but not used as much as in the past,
eg
kite surfing "the hookup" (no not that dating site) was the place to find out about our down winders, now FB is used, as im not a big FB user I rely on txt.
Oh and txt messages has also been replaced by FB messages

This forum seems to be quite healthy.

We will have to see what happens with the merger of You Tube, Twitter and Face Book.

I believe they are going to call it You-twit-face.com

Yep, Facebook is killing off forums in the same way forums killed off mailing lists.
Anyone can start up a facebook group, so they are more targeted to the content type that people want to see

Serious answer: facebook is slowly becoming 'oldies only'. The kids don't like it - precisely because parents/grandparents etc use it. They communicate via snapchat, instagram, tumblr, vine, tinder, kik, yik yak, and a bunch of other things you've never heard of.

Forums will always have their place, centred around the topic that brings people there, but also the sense of community. I recently bought a car for my wife, sight unseen, from a different state, at a very good price that was for forum members only. Because the seller had been on a specific car forum for 12 years, been to lots of get-togethers, was very well known in that community, I had a lot more trust of him.

I miss RidingSA.com. It was great of Emma to put the $$$/time to operate it, but she had no clue on how to design/manage a forum, and refused help from people who had. I reckon seabreeze is the best operated forum I know. Usability and tailoring a forum to what people want 'now' makes a tone of difference in my opinion.

^ yep, and having a fairly level headed owner has probably helped make it successful too

and that is sad.

a 10 y/o kid mentioned Tinder the other day. Seriously - casual sex dating site they'd not use but because it is an 'app' it is cool and OK

aus.motorcycles is alive and well. I still use it from time to time. Some good techo brains in there regarding repair advice. It's always good to wind them up hehe

Didn't brucie die a few years ago ?. I read a tribute about him a few years ago on his passing.


PS/ I shouldn't mention bikes, because it will degenerate into another one of those "show us ya KTM" threads... you know.. some people can't help it when you mention the word motorcycle.
