I am looking at a bit of a kiting trip, and I was looking at breaking the trip up with stopovers for a few days at least. It seems easy under Expedia, but I am unsure. They seem to offer prices that are hard to beat by going direct with the airlines.

Anyone used this before? Any problems?

Try Skyscanner, usually cheaper.
It's all fine until there's a problem. The third party booking service takes no responsibility for missing connecting flights etc.
Edit: and search in cognito, cookies off, or the price will go up with each search

Yes.

Didnt had problems when I used a couple of times before.
Expedia is indeed the easiest/cheapest site for multi city itineraries.

Issues would be if you need changes. Make a commitment and go w the original booking.

I used to use El Cheapo bookings. You end up sitting next to the toilet. If something goes wrong with your flight the, airline disowns you and directs you to your booking agent. They won't pick up the call.

Can you use it to book a flight back to where you came from ?

Try Google flights as a starting point. You can search one way, return or multi citi. You can also search from an origin eg Perth to an area instead of a particular destinastion eg Europe, Asia SE Asia etc.

As mentioned above online sites may be cheaper but if there is an issue with your ticket & you get pointed back to the online agent goodluck. Mind you some of the carriers themselves especially are "National" carrier are next to fkn useless as well.

Yeah, that's the worry. But, also as you point out, some carriers are pretty poor when you call them direct too! I called one today and they took 30 minutes to tell me something they could have told me in 2.

I think I might give it a go though as I want multicity flights specifically with days off between, so it gives me a certain amount of grace when it comes to connecting flights.

I was a bit surprised when I was looking at a flight somewhere with Qantas, and then looked at the code-share partners pricing for the same flight. Qantas was almost twice the price, to 3 times the price. The only benefit was that the code-share carrier could not preallocate seats, but that is a huge difference in price.

Could be worse though.. A few years back I arrived in Caracas airport after my domestic flight was hours late. Not only had my connecting flight gone, but the staff from that airline has shut up shop and were nowhere to be found.

Surprisingly it ended up turning out to be one of the best 'problems' ever in that a local changed my flight for me for a 'fee' so I got the next flight out, and also got compensation money from the domestic airline for running so late! Got to love Venezuelan enterprise!

Yes.

Yeah, I agree. Make a booking and stick to those flights. I want to add a day or two between all of them, so that should cover me for some problems. Probably better in-fact.

I remember getting delayed out of Sydney on a code share Virgin/Delta flight, and the first plane had an engine fault, and by the time they fixed it the cabin crew had been awake too long, so they cancelled the flight anyway. The follow on flight from LA to Panama was the next day, with no chance to make it, so luckily that airline reads their emails and fixed it for me.

One thing I want to stay away from is where the host airline prevents you from adding luggage or allocating a seat in advance. That sort of thing sucks, and indeed you could end up sitting in the worst seats and/or paying a bundle for extra luggage.

That cookies thing worries me sometimes. I tried this with flights from Vietnam, and instead it turned out to be the day of the week that was changing a lot of things. You could look for flights on a Sunday, and the prices would be $2000, or 'no seats available', and then on the Tuesday you could pick up flights for $400. Crazy, but okay once you understand how it works and have the guts to leave your booking until the next cheap day comes up again.

I like certain planes i hate others... being in an airbusa380 sounds awesome cause what a big amazing plane and cheap tickets until you realise its 10 hours with so many extra seats = extra babys crying

So i choose the aircraft.

I also live very very rough ive never paid for a aircon room or gone to a restaurant etc etc and the risk of me missing a flight is just waaaay too much for me to be able to handle so i actually choose flights that have huge layovers? Downtime between connections? This ensures not only do i get there with plenty of time to spair but so does the 50kgs of sporting goods im always lugging around.

But sitting in ****ty airports isnt fun right a d ya need to shower. Normally i shower in the disabled toilets with a cup of water and i use the sink but what i will always try to do first is to join whatever airline i booked with to BUY a day pass to theyre lounge. In theyre area you can get free showers and free baked goods and free alcohol and itll cost like 25 euros or something.

Ive even hung out in these lounges for a extra day on purpose because its far better and cheaper then any hotel room.

Some of my best time travelling has been at airports.

Except manila terminal 2 that place can go to the firey hell it came from. Everyone has a rooster inside the terminal where your trying to sleep... its madness..

I used to like flying with noise-cancelling headphones on. You could not hear anyone else around and still watch programs.

Now, on some planes they are so quiet I can hear people around me, and as you mention, crying babies are much more noticeable.
