hi I live on freshwater and wondering if anybody can identify this fish? Is it a Bass?

Not exactly sure where you are but it looks like a feral Tilapia to me, an introduced pest.

On the Gold Coast mate I've lived on this water for 17 years and never seen a fish like this one

you can catch it. by qld law u are meant to destroy (bury above the high water mark). but they do eat well and feature at gourmet restaurants overseas. Lot s of people eat them. The law is there to stop people liking them and introducing them where they currently aren't so they can catch them. At the end of the day removing it from the system anyway you can is a good thing

Yes I googled them and your all correct pest and will destroy if I catch one.
