I only recently became aware that evinrude outboards are finsished. BRP has chosen to no longer continue building them. I dont know about you guys but i reckon it is a bit of a shame considering their 100 + year history. I thought they might have something with the G2's.

I thought they burnt cleaner than 4 strokes? BRP is blaming it on Covid, but there is probably a few reasons.

The truth is, the Marine market has shrunk so much, so it's no longer viable to manufacture and sell. If there's not enough demand for a product, no point flogging a dead horse.

I read somewhere that evinrude had 11% of the American market. I doubt the problem was not enough demand but it was a strange market. You pay more money for an outboard that is louder and burns a special expensive type of oil. What do you get back? A little bit better hole shot.

A lot better hole shot, better top speed, quieter at revs, less fuel burn (than 200 4 stroke Suzuki), and no need to dispose of dirty sump oil let alone the need to buy oil each service.

But sticker price was way over the top when i got mine.

I'm pretty sure the State is determined to regulate two stroke motors out of existence. Motorcycle manufacturers saw the writing on the wall a while ago and switched a lot of their traditional two stroke lines over to four stroke likes.

It won't be long before chainsaws and other two stroke power tools will not be able to be sold anymore.

Any reliability issues with yours mate? My brother had a 2016/17? 50 etec with no issues and 400 hours but theres a few horror stories if you go looking.

A fella crossed the atlantic in 1985 ( OMC years) with 2 evinrude 65s and a 9.9 he reckons due to fuel the 9.9 did 2/3 trip. Its an interesting read anyway.

I have an battery powered blower, its from a company called Ego Powerplus. Its very powerful and so far its been great though its early days with it. I'm never going to buy another machine powered by a petrol engine with a carburetor. They are not worth the hassle, for me anyway. I'll go battery powered whenever I can. Currently I have a battery powered leaf blower, chainsaw and a multitool with grass & brush cutter.

Mine was 200 HO on the back of a Bluewater 20, 2015 built, had 40 hours on it, (dealer demo boat)
I sold it 3 and half years later to upgrade to a sail boat next year,
Almost 400 hours, it did need new plugs a couple of times and it did a value somewhere is the hydraulic steering that was easy fix under warranty.

Had the 2006 75 HP. Awesome engine, very fuel efficient pushing a Haines Hunter 495 breeze. I heard most issues arose from not using Evinrude oil and have the EFI set to the correct grade.

Thats good you were happy with yours Craig. Like i said earlier it would of been nice to see what Evinrude could of done with Direct injection 2 stroke. Those G2s with those benefits you were mentioning in your last post are a gamechanger. Mercury tried Direct injection 2 stroke with optimaxs but they were Sh1t. For now anyway new 2 strokes are no more in the Outboard industry.

Two strokes will still be made and sold mate, the issue around dropping them in the US and Aus was more about effort for reward. Many countries will still predominantly only use two stroke outboards. Especially when fuel quality is an issue but they will still be the simplistic models, not any of the fancy injected versions..
