I think you are confusing vegans who choose to eat a healthy diet with animal rights activists. I am a vegan who chose to go vegan for health reasons as most vegans that I know did it for the same reason. I have been vegan for three years and no longer take heart medicine and in fact I take no tablets at all ,my weight, blood pressure and cholesterol have dropped dramatically and at nearly 72 I am still surfing and paddling.
Yet for some strange reason, you hate me. Very sad.
I will be completely honest, I know only 3 vegetarians and one "vegan", the vegetarians choose not to eat meat for personal and/or perceived health benefits associated with their chosen diet and indeed I commend their choice.
The "vegan" (a niece) and could have been the model of the satirical stereotype that many associate with the 'vegan' movement. She is loud, opinionated, unbending and unwilling to accept any alternative to her chosen lifestyle. She is a member of and regularly contributes to social media platforms extolling her choice, she is often venomous and abusive/toxic in her comments and I feel that this is the kind of person that brings discredit to the cause, and creates the feelings of dislike, distrust and in some cases hatred amongst non-adherents. To put it bluntly, she is no different to any other 'radicalised' member of any other politically, religiously or self interested motivated group. I don't "hate" her (she is blood) but I don't agree with or choose to associate with her or her circle of friends.
I was in Melbourne a year ago when the "Vegan Protest" caused chaos and shut down the city centre by parking and abandoning hired vans at major intersections, laying across tram lines, disobeying lawful directions issued by police and generally harassing anyone and everyone who didn't agree with them. I had caught the train from Essendon to the city, got off at Flinders street and lobbed up right into the centre of the chaos. What they did that day alienated themselves from the moderates and set their cause backwards from which they struggle to recover, the niece however see's it as a great moral victory.
"rockmagnet" I admire your willpower to stick with it and the associated health benefits you have achieved through diet and lifestyle changes when medication was failing you is a big plus. Bravo. Although a vegan diet has proven beneficial to you I don't think it would suit everyone.
But when a dirty, rabid, anti social rabble (and this is IMO an accurate description of those who sought to occupy Melbourne 12 months ago) feel it is their divine right to get in my face and demand that I follow their rules, they've lost me, but I cant say that I hate them.
