Looking at extending my carport towards the front boundary. Kit costs $7,000 (9.3m x 3.3m SolarSpan which includes engineering documentation), Council Boundary Relaxation application fee $1,200, Certifier's costs $3,300, Surveyor's cost $2,200 (2 front pegs). Yet to engage a builder, which will be my son, who will sign off on it, but I will have to cover his fees/insurance. I can see why people don't get approvals to do small jobs. Just wondering if I'm getting f'd over with the costs. I'm happy with the Kit cost but the rest :(

Paperwork same cost as materials + labor that is not included...

I'm curious about certifier -they do two full days work on it? More hours than the surveyor...? higher hourly rate than the surveyor?

is the need for a "boundary relaxation" adding to it all? not sure what's involved with that.
normally if there is a couple of convenient reference marks in the street out front then the surveyor should be done in an hour or so plus an hour in the office before and maybe another after if you need a sketch.
is there a local requirement for an identification survey after completion? does the 2200 include this?

I think the Surveyors do have to provide what was used as a reference to establish the boundaries. But $2200 seems a bloody lot.

seems a lot, we recently had new carport installed 6.3 x 6 m. We let the carport company handle everything, shire, building approvals etc and the whole build was 9.5 K This is in Perth. I don't have the break down so not sure how much were the shire fees etc. but this covered everything

I reckon the councils are lazy now and just use the aerial pics to see who has done the wrong thing. I'm going to start a company printing the pic from google earth and sticking it to the roof of your new structure so from above they can't see it.

When I rang the council about the Boundary relaxation, that's exactly what they did. The girl I spoke to had a look and said 2 of my neighbours have already done what I'm requesting and there's a good chance for me to get approval. I suppose they do need money for the Christmas Party so I still have to submit the form and make a contribution to the orphans and widows fund.
