Why doesn't one of these big shots or lesser known speakers give the straight talk addressed to everyone. What most people want to know is what they can do to help. Why hasn't these scientists spent the time since last climate summit **** knows how long ago but used the time to just get to the basics, right here's what needs to be done, here's what people need to learn to give up on, whether it's household electrical goods, every family having 2 or 3 cars or cars in general, if want your kids to have a planet you need to live without the car, tumble dryers or whatever it may be. They could've spent these years working out what we need as individuals to live without, what we need to change & do without or change to different equipment or ways of doing things. Doesn't have to mean we give up electric or watching TV or just eat veg grown in your own garden!
Just get boffins working on the most in depth study & present it to people worldwide in simple terms, we all adapt to live with & without this or that in order for the planet to support future generations of people, animals & plants. There will be conspiracy freaks/climate deniers who be standing by ready to hate & stir **** so certainly have to study on getting the ultimate put down, a slap down that will destroy them & leave them too embarrassed to spout **** that carrying on way we been going it'll as be fine.

Yes I know I'm not the best at getting my point over but it's simple, the scientists do hard work & study everything @ then tell everyone we can't be using this n this blah blah @ what we can keep n use, same for businesses etc what goes what stays, what energy we need to use from now on & let the people take the action & drive the change, the people can change things & politicians will have to just follow in line or be voted out.
This is people being able to take the action to save the planet but more so they're motivated to save themselves & their families. Knowing all the small & large changes they need to make just enables it all to get rolling without waiting for politicians & multimillionaire business owners who we know rather than help we'll they plan to head or Mars or wherever!

I know it's long winded & repeats points but the core of the message has a workable idea albeit requiring a lot of effort, huge amount of effort but the world needs it & it can work! What solutions they gonna come out with at COP26 over next weeks, same **** as before with more delayed targets. Cmon someone out there more educated & eloquent than I am can interpret & present my message much better than I can & the idea can work as its People Power leading the way & once that gets going it ain't gonna stop.

Quite, the democratic majority is always going to vote for those that offer them the most. The seven deadly cultural sins have become the 7 tenets of successful advertising and the politicians are not immune to that.

Yes it would seem to be a fairly logical process for the government (Problem 1) to clearly articulate (Problem 2) a pathway for us all to follow (Problem 3) that would lead to individuals having some understanding of how they might reduce their carbon footprint in a meaningful way.
A simple list of say 6 actions that could be taken by punters that collectively would help us move towards emission reduction.

Problem 1 - How are we going to get political grandstanding focused on election outcomes to move across to run the logical side of our idea
Problem 2 - How are we going to get a clearly articulated message - based on the Plague babble it seems a big ask
Problem 2 - Can we who wish to follow the ideas be strong enough to overlook the comments from the side line of those who don't wish to play and not become over excited - 'virtue is it's own reward' style just getting along doing our own bitThere must be someone out there who could clearly articulate a few basic step us individuals might take.

Nothing any of us could do on a personal level would make the slightest difference, compared to the corporations and companies that are responsible for the vast majority of factors leading to climate change.

It'll be up to the govt to change everyone. Fuel's too cheap here for starters. Why take a Corolla to Rockingham and pitch a tent when you can tow a 23 foot caravan to Broome on your 3 weeks annual leave? (Never been to Broome but they look the same on google).

Petrol in Europe is $2.60/litre. The top-selling car is a VW Golf emitting 113 gm/km. The top seller in Australia is a 4wd Hi Lux at 245 gm/km. Easy for the govt. to raise tax on fuel but it'd play havoc with the tourism industry.

I understand your point of view, but again your focus on the individual is missing the whole point.

Obviously there are things we can do as individuals, however thimble-bailing it is.
Time and again the government has shown that they don't hold the peoples' best interests at heart, so I find an expectation in them changing things for us to be slightly naive.
It's up to the people to put pressure on the government(s) to make the largest contributors to climate change accountable.
As hard as that may be with fat uncle Larry lighting the pollies' cigars with those $100 bills, it's not impossible.


P.S. - if Broome looks like Rockingham to you, you should have gone to Specsavers...

There is a documentary coming out showing the biggest polluter in the world (by some margin)

My personal take is until human nature is changed this problem will never be solved. It's not just governments and corporations that "want more" its every human being. You can point the finger to whine we you want but we all share the same dysfunction. But hey gives some crew purpose I suppose.

We put pressure on the companies by not buying from them, all the way up the chain.

Hell, even the ****ing Murdoch press has back-flipped because of the pressure from advertisers, who were pressured by their customers/consumers.

It's surprising there is no rating system (similar to organic certification) that could compare similar products. So if something is made in China, then shipped to AU on an dirty big boat, it would be rated accordingly.

If individuals are all told to do our bit .You can be assured that noncompliance will cost individuals .
But if your a government or business it's totally fine .
My example of is I've been waiting over 20 years for a green bin from Blacktown council ,
I suppose I'll get one soon and the council will go on tv saying that they have reduced green house gas by so much & look good but every other council has had them for 20 years it wouldn't be so bad if it was a tiny council or something but it's the second biggest financially in the world after the greater L.A council

How so? Isn't LA one of those annoying spots where pollution is hard to get rid of due to the mountains? From what I have seen, LA has pretty much lead efficiencies in a lot of things and a lot of our own efficiencies are derived from things that have started much earlier in California.

I guess if you have the luxury of winds blowing the pollution somewhere else it seems like less of a problem.

I read the Odyssey years ago, written by Homer in 800BC, putting the mythology aside and the obvious technological progress what struck me is people are essentially the same. Ambition, greed, power, lust etc etc, all the stuff that motivated people in 800BC motivates people in 2021. Human nature wont change.
