If you're interested in Pete's condition, here's an investigation into it.
theconversation.com/dont-just-blame-echo-chambers-conspiracy-theorists-actively-seek-out-their-online-communities-127119

At the bottom is a link that describes the dangers that conspiracy theorists pose.
They may seem like a harmless minority, but they are growing, and starting to cause real problems.
I'm sure that's the last thing Pete would want to do, but it's the unwitting effect of some of his posts.

The Internet has allowed the cat out of the bag. The powers that be don't like it. They'd much rather have it back in 1985 with three commercial TV stations, a government TV station, radio networks and a few newspapers, all invariably owned by the same people.

I guess The Conversation is on the side of the powers that be. What is The Conversation's attitude to Julian Assange and Wikileaks? Wikileaks is all about exposing conspiracies to the cleansing light of public attention.

It's a good mental exercise, like the "what if" history scandals, working through possible explanations and ideas, but the issue is the nutters who take it seriously.

I hope the Conversation is on the side of truth, it says it's an independent, news agency. As such it shouldn't have an "attitude", but I guess the editors have their own biases, they are always a bit hard to ignore

It was conspiracy theorists who were gullible enough to really drink the actual lethal Kool Aid.

^ You're not wrong. It was the followers of Jim Jones, faith healer and cult leader, the sort of charismatic bloke that those who are more susceptible to bollocks feel inclined to follow. A sort of Henry Makow perhaps?

I heard that too but thought it was just a conspiracy theory.

Decrepit, just regurgitating what you're told is no different from being in a cult where the initiates believe their master or guru irrespective.

This is your second thread now on supporting censorship,a dangerous step indeed.

Does this support censorship? I don't see how, It's merely a study of conspiracy theorists.

I guess I did say it was dangerous though, does that imply censorship is needed?
Maybe, but I didn't say that.

You clearly are in favour of censorship.

The term conspiracy theorist is portrayed by the media in a derogatory way. It is an insult effectively.

You are pissed off that many on your other censorship thread have the gall to question the narrative so you label them as a conspiracy theorist.

Are you in favour of labelling anyone a CT who does not go a long with the narrative of man made climate change?

What about Wikileaks and Assange? This is clearly a situation where conspiracists will punish those who shine a cleansing light of publicity. The rich and powerful want to crush and kill him.

Conspiracy theorist was a derogatory term invented by the CIA to attack those investigating the crimes of the Deep State. As a result it's easy to say one is a stupid to say there conspiracies and there is a Deep State.

Wrong Pete!!! Again!!
A much better alternative is to teach kids critical thinking and logic, then they won't be as liable to succumb to rubbish.

Of course not, but a lot of the stuff that could make them think that way is promulgated by conspiracy theorists.
Take scomo and his mates, frinstance their views are ideological, and probably because they believe in coal more than the planet's well being. Nobody is saying that's a conspiracy, just short shortsightedness
But the time seems to be fast approaching when climate change denial will no longer be possible

What exactly do you mean by "climate change denial will no longer be possible"?

Not allowed I take it?

There are always going to be people that have different viewpoints. Whether their opinions are right or wrong they are still going to have them.

Obvious to you yes,to others it's propaganda.

Your choice of words saying 'but the time seems to be fast approaching when climate change denial will no longer be possible' implies there will be censorship by the authorities on this topic.

Well in that case, I didn't put it very well, that's not what I meant.
The current fires in the Eastern States, are a start, yes Australia has always had fires, but the severity, amount and timing of these are very different to normal. Other effects will become more and more obvious, even you won't be able to deny it. Yes you will be allowed to there won't be any rule against it, you'll be just as free to deny climate change as you are now able to deny a spherical earth

I think that censorship is a great idea and we should have lots more of it. As long as it my sort of censorship and not the other people's one

Anyone who has not is just missing out
Anyone who has not taken lsd and is a conspiracy theorist is just plain crazy
Anyone who has taken lsd and is not a conspiracy theorist obviously had too low a dose

Really? Long time readers will know that PM33 can certainly deny that the sun comes up. They are all attached to the dome, didn't you know? With multiple suns all over the place, but somehow we can only ever see one at any one time or place. Go figure!

I know what you're saying here, but there will be people who deny the climate has changed even after the last biological cell on earth has burnt to a crisp (presumably from the computer orbiting somewhere out near Pluto where their consciousness has been uploaded). Just like they will forever deny the earth is roundish...
