Well, once I was driving from home to LA and I think the engine flooded. It was running fine and then completely stopped. It might have been the AC as the bottom of the floor started to get wet.

Maybe I'll just sip some aldi sparkling wine and have a bit of a holiday by the Pink Lake over xmas, you are welcome to stay for a night if it's a bit out of your way.

All the mechanics are booked out now. I just need to get a simple service, for the trip home, nothing fancy. I did notice a drop of fluid in my garage floor, so maybe if you could take a look at what may have caused that too.

Hi caralinehana. Clutch on my tractor won't engage. It has to be depressed to start the engine. Master cylinder sits behind the dash and there has been a bit of a weep of fluid on the cab floor from that general area for a while. So I assumed the master cylinder seals had gone and so I pulled it out. Fark-me, what a nightmare. Umpteen hose and wiring harness to disconnect, remove the steering wheel, pull the dash front cover and rear cover off. Anyways several hours later I got it out. Pulled it to pieces to measure the seals and bugger me, they look fine. Mind-you it looked like somebody had been there before me. Every hose and electrical connection I had to remove had a coloured cable-tie or mark on it for reconnecting in the right order that definitely weren't original. Then I had an epiphany. I only ever run the tractor in hydraulic drive with clutchless shuttle-shift. Only reason I need the clutch is the safety feature of having it depressed to start the engine. I could bypass that just by shorting out the pressure switch. I found three of them on the back of the master cylinder, If I had just shorted them all out I bet it would have been fine. Start but no clutch but I never run it in mechanical drive mode anyways, so I don't even need the clutch. Now I got several hours to put it all back together again, but being such a pedant I think I have to fix it anyway now, because it will annoy me stripping it and not fixing it properly. So now I am going chase where the fault is anyway. Maybe just a pin-hole in an old clutch hose somewhere I assume. But if you want to come help Friday 10.20am suits me.

I sold my house from there recently and made a pretty decent profit. Places there are selling within weeks, both to locals and investors. Mine took 2 weeks.

For a town that people assume is going to die, it is doing remarkably well. I think people from Perth are looking for somewhere more affordable and people that work around there need somewhere to live.

I would happily buy back in if property values dropped over the next 5 or 10 years. Its a nice town. I think the 'people from there' are just about the same these days as people from Perth.

I was reading the Wikipedia page on Collie and 84% of 'them' are of Australian, Anglo European decent. So if you consider that 94% of these white people are sub normal, according to the ABS. You have a town full of what 'normal' people may call 'white trash'.

The slightly annoying thing is that some of this is people buying blocks of land, but not doing anything with them... well at least that is my theory. In Collie there were plenty of spare blocks around 4 years ago, selling for cheap prices. They are almost all gone now. The couple that bought my house were saying that even the advertised ones were not even really still for sale.

I can't blame people. Why stay in Perth or a bigger town when you can sell up and buy a cheaper place somewhere a bit quieter and own it outright. Some of these places are not that remote and I think it depends on what you need out of life.

I agree with the battery failure point the OP mentioned. The cell closest to the engine is the first to fail in my experience. It gets the hottest. I always pack a portable jump starter (battery boaster) when I travel remotely. You can get them from Jaycar, Autobarn, Supercheap etc. They've got me out of hot water twice in the sticks, as well as other people over the years. If you look after them, they last years. The Boxing day special is soon. If you don't have one, then get one. I brought one during the November Black Friday special for $99. A very cheap insurance policy I think.

Filling up at a servo on the way to my parents tonight, a lady stops her car behind me, and asks me to look at a strange light on her cluster. That's a battery light I said. Looks like your car has a charging issue. Damn, it's a new battery too she said. Ok, let's pop the bonnet and have a look. Yep, brand spanking new battery. 5 seconds later.. "Wow, there's your problem !". Her car had dropped a belt that powered the alternator (Therefore, nothing turning the alternator). If that was a professional installing her new battery, then it's disappointing the installer couldn't be ****ed checking the charging system. Anyway, looks like she's up for a new belt and possibly another new battery. She was on her way to Mildura in Victoria, a 400 odd k journey, and leaving at night. Lucky she asked hey ?. Merry Xmas all, and buy a battery boaster. Just do it !
