Rode the ferry from Rose Bay to Circular Quay. Amazing, smooth, fast, scenic... and a steady wind at 39km/h, head wind gusting 52km/h

The Sydney Ferries catarmaran Victor Chang and 5 others have a speed of 26kn, or 48km/h. Were my friend and I in a wind occasioning a closing speed of 100km/h ? If so, why could we still stand ?

I can only imagine there was some turbulence over the front of the boat, so maybe you weren't exposed to the full force of the wind. I remember a river cruise we took on a fast cat on the Gordon River in Tassie and there was a big southerly head wind. I think the closing speed was around 60 kts. The kids were all having fun standing on the front deck with their arms out like wings, leaning forward at about 45 degrees.
