Its probably not that telstra "wont let you", more that they know your old tv wont be able to do modern HD 4K & 8K

My issue is SBS deciding that for "the best experience" they keep upgrading system requirements. Its a free broadcaster and all the other on-demand services from ABC/7/10 etc etc still work on a HD TV with TelstraTV
Its like a 4K TV saying nah you can't plug in a DVD player as we think you don't want to watch inferior source input.
Or the new iPhone saying nah we won't do text messages anymore as everyone wants to do FB or Telegram

So again - free to air and the others aren't doing it, why does SBS have to be difficult... especially as no way is that doco 4K....

Nor sure what SBS on demand programmers are on but in comparison to other networks their service is wanting. A year or so ago I bought a new Samsung Smart tv. Every time an advertisement came on the screen would freeze every 20 seconds for 10 minutes or so. SBS denied there was an issue and said it was my connection etc.etc. so in the end I contacted Samsung and told them it was too bad I cannot watch their ads on SBS on demand on a Samsung Smart tv. Samsung customer Service relayed my proof to Samsung management.
Amazingly there were no more Samsung ads on SBS and I received email from SBS advising they were doing whatever to their softwear make it compatible with new smart tv s from Samsung. That problem now fixed but now when watching a series it does not roll over to the next episode always and if you pause the episode for a period it starts the episode again. Perhaps SBS need faster pedellers.

You can watch SBS on Demand using Android, iOS (tvOS), and of course the web. SBS don't have to make their platform work for every, weird little conceivable platform imaginable. It's Telstra's fault for forcing their own weird standards onto you, that isn't compatible with the world.

You can probably pick up a telly that'll stream SBS on Demand from Aldi for the price of a tank of fuel.

Telstra seem to make most of their profit from unsuspecting, older people that "trust" Telstra/Telecom because they recognise them.

I just want to have a rant about Telstra.

So I came across a (paper!) bill at my parents'. It was from Telstra. "David" at the local Telstra shop had sold them the "duck's nuts" package where they they had two mobiles on the most expensive business plan possible. This was basically unlimited data, a new phone every year, and a replacement if broken.

My parents can barely use email.

I took the bill across to "David" and he moved them onto a lower plan, free of all contract breaking fees etc. etc., without barely saying a word, zero argument.

They know they are ripping off the vulnerable. I abhor Telstra.

Another Telstra story: My brother-in-law got his Teltra internet cut off, middle of the week, "to attract their attention". So he'd call them. So they could upsell him. True story.
