I've lucked out financially, because some investments I made allowed me the privilege of cutting out from the workforce for the past year. It's been absolutely wonderful.

Sometime, down the track I want - will probably have to - get back into working again. But want to do something a bit different.

TBH I feel a bit like a teenager, wondering what a career path at my age might look like. I'd love some position of some limited power - pool inspector, property valuer. Hahaha.

Anyone got any good stories of changing/adjusting careers later in life?

I don't have a story but you might find fulfillment in filling one of the many voids in the world.
We're short on social workers, dietitians, concreters,
the list goes on.
A job that has you immersed in nature could be good for the soul. I always look at those beachside equipment vendors with a sprinkle of envy.

Theres a job in my part of the world...only pays half what i earn or less. But involves working with scientists tracking marine turtles in remote NQ. Camping expeditions etc. If i just needed a normal salary a nice lifesryle job like that would be good. Enjoyable but still ok money.

I changed career paths late 40's... started in IT in newspaper production back when we used to fix things... went through management but found I had a natural ability to manage projects and complete dislike of boardrooms and budgets... so after 28yrs with the one company I quit and went and did a diploma in Project Management. Part way through that I scored a job as a Project Delivery Manager running retail fitouts and capital projects for a large shopping centre company. Been in this game for 10yrs now. The variety and getting out and about and away from the desk are the things that I like. I did however drop a chunk of money - but you adjust.

They are all good ideas, but I'm more of a people person.

I've had this idea of becoming a pool fencing inspector. In Vic they've changed rules and there's lots of work. There would be room for corruption and bribes. People who I dislike or don't comply, I would order them to fill in their pools.

If the opportunity for corruption and bribes is an important consideration have you thought about becoming a politician ?

Federal Senator seems like quite an attractive idea.

Pick the right micro-party and go talk to one of these preference consultants, then all you need something like 0.5% of the votes to get in.

6 year guaranteed term, you don't have to actually do much. Just turn up when parliament is sitting (like 15 weeks a year or something) and vote any which way on every division so it looks like you are doing something according to the records.

You get to stand up and abuse anyone you want about anything and claim Parliamentary Privilege. No mods there deleting posts.

Hell, if it works for Pauline, Clive, mad Bob Hatter and that dude from the Australian Motoring Party whatever his name was - I am sure myscreenname could live with it.

Fact checked - at least two parts of this story are true. The anti vaxer, anti Dandown info is harder to verify, but, at face value (considering HW contributions), appears plausible.
