Whats the go guys? Particularly with sites like gumtree. I understand it is russian rolette basically as I've had friends who've picked up something cheap only for it to break down on them down the track. The thing is I'm keen to take up photography and get into surf photography down the track. The price of dslr camera's on the other hand are crazy; not to mention editing software costs.

So whats your thoughts? Or would it be better to simply save up and fork out proper?

If the seller comes across as decent, you shouldn't have any issues. Always pays to see what else they are selling and where they live. Chances are if its a nice place / area then you shouldn't have too many problems.

I've sold truckloads of stuff on gumtree. Electrical wise it's been 1 SLR, 1 DSLR, a small fridge / freezer, car guages / turbo timer and all were working fine. Ads were honest (clearing out unused stuff) and the buyers got a deal.

I think with DSLR's etc, as long as it works and you check the lens over carefully you'll have no problems.

I wouldn't buy editing software though!!
