Tried adding the article but it didn't work. The article provides links to donate directly to people in need, animal shelters and of course the Salvo's and Red Cross. Keep arguments about the credibility of these NFP's out, just donate if you can.

The show up in Mallacoota of this point makes the point of STOL 4 seat light aircraft bush-planes,It is pathetic from Australians when it comes to common sense of the vastness of the country, the length of time to reach locations and when mass numbers of cargo and people must be moved quickly to safety you get a deadly traffic jam.

We always try to donate directly to the closest point of the disaster. Like in the case, to the CFS or RFS which mostly are volunteers.
We no longer donate to the big groups, (some mentioned in these posts.)
Main reason being is, one of the big world organizations 'after' the Boxing Day Tsunami, explanation to why the funding hadn't ever made it to those impacted within the first two years. The answer given was:
We will use funding where we see fit, and not necessarily in this recent disaster
All funds collected help to bolster our relief fund reserves, and we then allocate as "we" as we see fit.
This organization collected millions at the time from donations that the donating public believed would be for those impacted.

Look up BLAZEAID and either donate or volunteer to help farmers rebuild their fences.
It doesn't get any more direct than that.

How do you donate directly to the volunteer firefighters without actually giving money directly to them? The organisations they volunteer for are controlled and owned by State governments. So any money donated to these organisations could go wherever a bureaucrat decides.

The RFS in NSW at least is turning into a government department with all the rules, paperwork and regulations that come with a bureaucracy. This is one the main reasons many country people are leaving the RFS and relying on themselves to protect their property.

I'd definitely go for your local orgs or a firefight units. Also you may ask if your workplace has some program for a thing like that or management have plans on helping themselves and you might join. We did it first with www.redcross.org/ and after a few weeks our company www.depressionalliance.org/ started a campaign as well so it's a win-win for me, I took part in both.
