This method is really fast and sounds like you're trying to get dizzy, not relaxed. Can someone explain it to me ?
you gotta go watch his podcasts, or do a workshop. They are totally awesome. Not to mention the retreats - one of the best experiences of my life. Climbed Kosciouzco in shorts only in winter/snow and swam in snow freezing rivers.But there are couple variations of the WHM breathing. The most common one is 3-4 sets of 30-40 inhales and exhales (you pick the tempo you are comfortable with), and on last exhale hold your breath as long as you can without forcing it, then repeat. Each next set you will be able to hold longer. It's not a competition though, only purpose is to relax. But people have recorded 8 minute holds. (i managed 3:45 once)
Point of breathing is - yes to get you bit dizzy - but it's filling up blood with oxygen and performing controlled hyperventilation. This exercises your respiratory systems on daily basis, and [-- insert long and detailed scientific banter here--] activates your parasympathetic nervous system. Parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for calming your body and fighting stress. If you do it properly you will feel on high... yet it's simply being high on oxygen instead of drugs. (It's awesome - and i'm not even a hippie).
This method is highly effective if you suffer anxiety... or prone to stress... The next level is when you do breathing sets, and after exhaling on breath hold do pushups... now that's something totally insane. Allows you to push your body beyond what you ever though possible.
