When I went to Egypt on a windsurfing holiday I noticed that a lot of buildings have 'starter-bars' protruding through the upper roof (i.e. to tie further steel reinforcing bars to) on most houses. I guess that's the thing to do when you build as you need to. Probably to accommodate larger families as the kids have families of their own.
I have seen the same thing now in a few other places, and I guess its common.
Apparently in Egypt, when you complete a house/building you then have to start paying tax on the house.
So they never fully complete a building and everything looks daggy!
I wish they had the same rule here as I would never have to start paying tax!
As far as the roof tiles go, the previous owner left a bunch of spares under the house, but... my house seems to use some odd sizing on the tiles, and the tiles stored under the house are almost the right size. So every time my lard arse breaks a tile, I need to trim down one of the existing ones with a diamond blade in the angle grinder.
If it was a standard size I probably would have retiled the house by now in frustration. You should see my attempt at setting ridge tile!
Before they would come off, now they will be the only things left if the rest of the house gets hit by a cyclone. Not a pretty job either!
