Im hopping on a yacht in bali and heading up to malaysia for a few weeks. I want the absolute best travel insurance -medivac of a yacht in the middle of nowhere careflight home sort of thing. The quote I have so far is only $90. They say its coverred but im happy to pay much more for a premium service.
Any suggestions?

Covermore.

I've tried most companies but after speaking to a friend of mine who is exceptionally well travelled (Africa, india, pakistan, middle east, south america etc.. all places a solo mid 20's blonde girl shouldnt go!) with industry experience, she suggests CM are the way to go.

My only claim has been with them. Sort of similiar to what you are worried about but i lost all movement below my waist in a jungle in remote PNG. I had a scenic chopper ride from a remote clearing and ended up in a hospital thats main entry was through a closed roller door!! They mentioned a care flight back to Brisbane as a last resort but fortunately it wasn't needed. Best holiday ever

Just out of curiosity what caused you to loose all movement below the waste?

No idea and no one has been able to give me a decent answer. My doc wanted me to go see aspecialist but too much $$ lol

My legs / feet / toes just stopped working as i was walking through a river. I still had feeling and i could move them with my hands and I tried everything i had. Magnesium tablets, deep heat, GU energy shots, 3l of powerade, massage etc. They gave some injections in PNG but never said what. Every few months since, i'll wake up at night and the same thing happens but it's fixed when i wake up.

I was lucky though, at the hospital a local bloke was next to me with horrific machete wounds and 24hrs earlier our guide died from a heart attack.

Try STI (surf travel insurance). They have pre planned evacuation and emergency plans for most remote areas. This will save a great deal of confusion and time if something does happen and you need help.

Don't know if they are definitively 'the best' but I have only used www.1cover.com.au/ exclusively for more than a decade now.

Only had one claim, I had some medical bills and an early flight out of Fiji once when I got busted up on coral and the wounds turned septic. The paid up quickly and without many questions.

I used them just last night, it cost $253 to comprehensively insure two adults and a child for 5 weeks in Indo. That policy has a $100 excess on claims.

You biggest problem travelling to Indo right now is that the insurers all seem to have an Ash Cloud Exclusion on the policies issued after 3rd July 2015.

Bargearse, how are your flights looking into Bali at the moment?
I'm flying next week into KL and then direct to Sumatra but won't be in Bali for another 3 weeks or so.
Hope that gives enough time for Mr smokey pants to cools down !

When i've used the Visa one, they've said they'll cover any claims that have been paid on the card. IE flights and hotels booked but if you paid cash for an activity and things went pear shaped i wouldn't trust them.

The other thing is that some insurance companies make you pay first and reinburse you later. I know Covermore didn't otherwise i would be currently be living a simple life in some random PNG tribe

thanks everyone! getting quotes and comparing pds's. im surprised at how good a value it is, considering you could be up for some very severe costs. like low altitude medi flights etc. great to have the seabreaze brains trust to help

Another good tip is to up your house insurance to cover personal gear before you go , it doesn't cost much. Especially if you have pro camera gear or lap tops , you'll find most policies only cover up to $1,000 with a nasty excess on personal items.
