Open tailgate- all the way

With one hand, grasp the strut

Push it laterally jussstttt enough to bend it

Now it has a kink at the maximum extension so it will stay up. Last another 10yrs


Then, when it truly fails - eBay.

EBay, "the strut guys" , got a pair for a commodore tailgate about $35 delivered.

Yes it works for those that are jusssttt not quittte holding. A kink at full extension, can last years
