Not really a loss, more a wealth transference- essentially a corporate tax on stupidity

Maybe you are right, but still this tax is paid mainly by those retaires playing POki for the money they dont have already. Money that there are going to spend anyway to pay for food, rent. Not a Bill Gates spinning the roulette wheel or Gina transferring her wealth to needy.

Or maybe we understand life is short and finite and why not have a crack? Or maybe there are a number of us who enough free income to splash about on a punt here and there as we are more optimistic as well about future income potential.
Just seeing more gambling per capita as a stat and assuming we are all experiencing the horrible consequences of over gambling is just that, an assumption.

Be a better stat (if possible) to somehow measure the opportunity cost / loss per capita maybe.

Would you prefer to have your personal choices regulated by big brother?

there's no pokies in the pubs in w.a
but there is tab
always used to watch on as guys lay out hundreds of dollars on horses and dogs
now
the gambling is an app on their phones and they don't even have to move from their seat to lose hundreds of dollars

To be fair gaming on phones could be spending money anywhere overseas. Gaming machines pay for some of the nicest pubs and RSLs in NSW.

Think of the upside. Gambling is all about uncertainty and random events. That's quantum physics in a nutshell.
So when quantum computing comes in we'll already be used to it.

I like it. Imagine that you come to Bunnings or Coles to make you shopping and prices are random drawn at cashier. On average customers spend the same , shop ear ings too, just distribution of payment contribution change a bit.
