Hope everybody has a great day!!!!!

Just came home from an Australia Day breakfast picnic. Everyone was saying "Happy Australia Day" to each other. Of course we are all familiar with "Happy Birthday" and "Merry Christmas", but when did "Happy Australia Day" become a standard greeting? It just sounded kind of weird to me.

I really noticed it this year too... Must say though, everyone I heard say it were foreigners. Even though some of them are Australian residents (and some nationalised).

Got up a bit late - decided to go with family and a mate's family pipi-ing at a beach about an hour away that included some 4wd-ing, followed by a feed and few beers at the local over there. Back home the long way around a limestone track (missus drove for obvious reasons ;-) with enough bait to last a few months, a car full of happy (sunkissed) kids and a few travellers for the journey.

This is the second Ausie day in 2 yrs haven't been in aus

It's just not the same, big loud party at mine next year

Bit sick of the "Australians" who feel the need to ruin it for everyone else though. Morons.

Plus side, had a GREAT sail and couldn't hear the d!ckheads on the beach with their Jap utes, Chinese stereo and Mexican beers, and the wasted-by-midday muffintop missus skwawking away.

It's more than just a coincident that the long weekend happens right in the middle of the best sea breeze weather on the SE coast of SA.

We've been flying power kites at Kingston for the last 15 years in a row and never been skunked for wind.

How old is Australia???

Is its age only a consideration after the British invasion, or does the nations age include the well established communities that were already thriving prior to the invasion?

Its a strange day to celebrate as most nations celebrate their national day when they received independence not when they arrived........the second time.

Unfortunately Australia day seems to be a day that not all Australians can celebrate making it a very strange day

In fact, most states didn't celebrate the day together till 1994, after the success of the bicentenary

I cant see it being a successful secular celebration until ALL Australians are united

Its a terrible example of unity when some are celebrating British History, some are celebrating Australian Independence and some are mouning the Invasion of their country.......................weird, but that's what you get when you don't reflect on history honestly.

It is what it is.. This debate has been done to death here... For what it's worth, I think the majority aren't ignorant to Australia's past. Celebrate the day as a day for ALL Australians. If you dont want to take part, don't.

Even the aboriginal elders were saying this year to put the evasion day crap behind them and move on. Because we CANT move on until WE do...
