I just read the conditions on my Jetstar ticket (domestic) and they say they can refuse items over 6' 3"
Has anyone had a problem with this rule. My board is 7"+

If its a A320 the length restriction is 1.9 meters. I had this issue recently traveling home. I had one flight only that had that restriction. My boards really were only 6'4" in 2.00 ,meter bag. Checking in she looked at me cross eyed (after i requested she didn't weigh my carry on luggage) and said "how longs that", i answered " 1950" and she laughed and sent it through. BUT they get packed into boxes so id say 7' could be an issue.

I did pay for my boards for the return trip and i read somewhere that it said the surfboards may not travel on my flight if over length.. Having said all that when i got home to Perth the twit wheeled out the trolley with my surfboards at the very bottom with every other bit of oversized luggage pilled on top..

How much did they sting you when you paid for overlength return ?

A320 aircraft are containerised, the containers are pretty small compared to the wide body aircraft. their dimensions are about 1.46 * 1.44 * 1.11m. The bulk cargo area is pretty small too so you could be in trouble.

If the bag chuckers are familiar with Pythagorean maths then a 2m board could fit.

Qantas and Virgin have 737's which aren't containerised so wouldn't be an issue

How much did they sting you when you paid for overlength return ?

Travelling over to Hawaii from Perth i didn't pay as i just checked it as part of my 20kilo baggage. Coming home i added it as an extra 20 kilo bag and paid about $70 or 80 bucks. BUT i also figured if they got testy on the flight to Perth from Sydney (the only A320 leg) than i would have some arguing power. That and i also brought an extra 20 kilos home.. If your flight is with Jet star on an A330 then its 2.7 mtrs..

On another note i used a double bag with extra padding around the nose and tail areas. But the damage i received mostly was from sharp items on the bottom of the board in the middle zone. So id pack it next time with thin cardboard all over i recon..

I'm 6'4" !!

No wonder I won't fly Jetstar.......

Just went to Bali with Jetstar with a 6'0 board and was fine, both ways. I asked the dude at the oversized baggage in Perth what the story is who told me he sees all sorts of size boards much longer than 6'0 and I should not worry. He said it's down to the person at the desk and if they want to put it through - pot luck..

i think 1.90cm is the limit but I saw around 8-10 other boards in the holding area in Bali for the return flight, my board was easily the shortest and they all arrived back to Perth, I flew on a A320 both ways.

Its all a bit of a gamble and hopefully it pays off for you.

If it's just 7" stick it in your pants.

With Jetstar on a A330 the length is 2.7 mtr
