I believe rugby union/league copied the concept from the AFL in the 80s after the success of the games between Vicco, WA and SA. Nowadays when they run it, there are teams representing Queensland and NSW. They also have representative indigenous teams. It is a very broad representation of the Australian community. And growing in revenue and popularity Australia wide (includining NSW and Queensland) as it is a superb game. Hows rugby going? My impression was it sure isn't rocking it the way it was 20-30 years ago.
no league didn't copy AFL.
NSW has been playing QLD since 1908.
they changed the name to State of origin in 1980,
the main reason was a rule change,,,, you played for the state you played your first first grade game in.
why would League copy anything about the AFL ,,,IMHO AFL ****'d victorian football.
