I knew 2nd car prices have gone up, but can you believe that on carsales.com.au there are only 59 cars listed under $3000? (And most of them are $2999)

I even found a few old Camry's with massive km like my own, which I assumed was only worth "tyres and rego", listed for several thousand dollars!!

Low mileage imported Delicas have gone from $13k to $26k.

I think the ship may have sailed for the extreme gouging although there is still some meat left on the bone . Jimny has had six price rises in two years . I paid 28K and the identical one two years later is now 38K . After multiple letters on the window I'm considering taking the 35K & running . Land cruiser & VW cali are crazy prices

We don't really need the extra car until mid-January, sounds like a good idea to hold off.

Yeah it's crazy I sold my old Triton like 4 years ago and people are still wanting nearly double what I got back then. I had an olsd **** box BA Falcon that I gave away in the end, they probably want like 3000 for it these days. Does look like they are coming down, see quite a few dropping by at least a few grand, i'd imagine with interest rates that rend will continue, while younger guys realise they can't afford the repayments on the overpriced Covid car they bought

Can new cars (say 2018 and later) be serviced by owners ?. Or do they need specialised dealer software/hardware for them to function ?. I would like to get something a bit bigger and newer, but I must be able to service the car myself without some internal mechanism nil op'ing the car that can only be unlocked by the dealer.

Nb/ A couple of people I know who own KTMs have had their motorcycles not delivered properly. The stealer forgot to program the computer in their bikes, so after X amount of kms, the bikes would not start and an predelivery lock message would display on the cluster. There was a big curfuful in the states about this sort of BS some years back with John Deere - "the right to repair", but not sure if this consumer protection has flowed into AU.
