Instead of a flat out ban and removal of general discussion which has been the source of many interesting topics over the years. Some of which topics have helped me personally when the winds not blowing, the surfs flat or when I want to go down a strange rabbit hole. I thought I'd put it to Laurie and the other sea breeze geezers that it stays for a select few. How we decide the select few who are allowed in is by a few challenges relating to the use of this sites live wind graphs and forecasts. This should prove that they are using the site for good and not evil! This should also do those certain few some good, You know the ones that have been spending to much time in general discussion and not enough time outdoors! The first challenge I suggest is to take a kids foam glider from Kmart and transform it into a slope soaring remote control glider.
I have recently completed a few due to being unable to surf or fish etc thanks to a health issue.

To complete the transformation you will need.
1 x foam glider
3 x 9 gram servos
1 x y-lead
1 x lost model alarm
1 x 2 channel receiver
1 x remote control
some scraps of plastic, elastic bands , glue and something to make the flaps.
This should cost no more then $100 including the plane !

Once completed and flown some pictures for proof and acceptance would be posted on the thread to gain access into the hierarchy of the GENERAL DISCUSSION area of sea breeze ????

The V-tail mixing is done in the transmitter. I use a JR DSX9 transmitter (manufactured in Japan).

Cheap 2-channel transmitters can be a false economy unless you are sure this will be a one-off project. You can get a programmable radio that does all sorts of fancy stuff for not much more. This one will do pretty much everything that my JR Propo DSX9 does, but without the $800 price tag. Simple things like having digital setting of trim, travel, rates, etc. are all worth their weight in gold, even if it's just for a single model, never mind the luxury of having all those settings saved in the transmitter for different models (they reproduce in the shed on their own!). That's all before you even consider the advantages of using 4 or 6 or even more channels.

I'm using these micro-components to literally make a paper plane with stealth remote control. It's going to be hilarious when people see it slope soaring on the promenade at 'the wall' at Cronulla, having no idea how a paper plane is managing to stay in the air all that time on its own.

What I think you want to do is known as FPV flying. You can do it with goggles or a remote screen and can record the video if you want. The best quality will always be something like a GoPro strapped to your plane, so a lot of guys have one of those on the plane to record a high-quality video while they use a different video camera for the FPV. There are some amazing OSDs (on-screen display) that give you a heads up display that looks pretty similar to a modern fighter jet.

A drone is probably what you want, or else there are some planes that are very stable and would be suitable for this. Google "RC FPV" and you'll be amazed at what equipment is available. A plane will probably give you better range and flight time, but then you need to learn how to fly, whereas drones require no real skill.

For zero effort, there are drones ready to go out of the box.



HobbyKing Bixler is a nice stable and rugged plane platform if you want to DIY. This video will show you a typical setup where the guy is getting several miles range.

Its got an accellerometer in the rx to stabilise and is remarkably easy to fly- coming from someone who never flew a rc plane before was making it do loops after a minute or so. Crazy bang for buck. Buy some superglue and masking tape for when you crash it. Then decide if you want to make it a hobby...

You need to be a member of a club and be flying at the club's approved site, or get special CASA approval to fly at your own location.

Also, you are not allowed to fly remote control without line of sight vision of the aircraft. When flying FPV, you don't have line of sight vision of the aircraft because you are looking at a screen, so to fly FPV legally you need to have a second person acting as 'spotter' and that person has a second controller and is able to take over control of the aircraft and fly it home safely if you lose your video link.

Now, there are some guys that do crazy stuff, like flying over 100 km away from the starting location (200+ km round trip!!) by using directional antennas and illegal signal boosting, obviously not maintaining line-of-sight. Sometimes using onboard autopilots with GPS programmed with waypoints. Here are a couple of videos that will show what people can achieve and how they do it.

Flying a drone watching the view on my smart tv over to a property 500m away to chase kangaroos off the farmers property was a lot of fun during a covid lockdown. Herding them into a group then pushing back out into the bush.
Was like a real life video game. The farmer use to give me a thumbs up to the drone as I flew past on the way home.

I had fun, farmer had no roos left in his paddock.

Way more humane then shooting our aussie icons.
Could easily set up a drone to move roos on automatically like this on farms, but the shooters that like killing them would probably protest.

Maybe, but 4 months on and they still scatter really quick when buzzed, if not more now that they seemed to have learned that the noise coming means "get out of here".
Cant get as close to them now than I use to, they take off soon as they hear the noise.

As to "need to feed somewhere" ?
Plenty of feed around here for them, tall grass is actually a problem around here, have to mow every week, unless its feed for your cattle

The scarecrows and noises work for a day or 2 then are useless.
A drone flying at their heads at 60km an hour soon gets them moving. 4 months on and they move just from the approaching sound as they have learnt it means something is about to hit them.

So easy to be set up all automatic. Plot way points and height for it to follow on your phone/laptop, it flys out for 10mins every half hour zig zagging your set course then returns to charge station for half hour charge.
If its a large area you have several.
