Grew up in Adelaide, started sailing age 13 crewing in 12' Cadet dinghies at Brighton, Seacliff Yacht Club (BSYC) around 1949. Got an old heavyweight sharpie "Kismet" 1951 and sailed it for about 5 years. Went to the U.S 1963-68, partly rebuilt a 1929 'Overnighter' 31 ft timber sloop, sailed it from Chesapeake Bay to Canada and back with wife and 1 yr old son 1968.
