The tax cuts
The Liberals , in their time honoured fashion, have framed the tax argument as the battle between aspiration ( their side of politics) and envy (Labor). Shorten has fallen into the trap and needs to drop his argument and come in from a different angle. So the argument for lowering business tax is based on their firm belief in the trickle down effect . Wages have already been cut and still remain stagnant despite a big surge in company profits. That's reason enough alone to call bullsh#t on the governments claims.
The personal income tax cuts that have been projected out to fix or six years is smoke and mirrors I believe. Here we have Turndial and co coming out and saying "it's your money and we want to give it back" ( they do so well at appealing to greed ) . I'm sure some people would be a wake up to this but I believe the larger amount of voters will believe it. So now in the midst of record debt with the Libs screaming a few years back about debt and defecit emergency are talking about bringing personal tax rates down to record lows over the next seven years or so.
So the question ought to be put to this government is that with rising population and health care costs how will they fund Medicare, NDIS, education and training, pensions, infrastructure, ect ? How will they do that with less tax revenue ? They will cut cut government services. Something got to give.
The truth is that this government is taking us down the American road. A dog eat dog society. Hands up who wants this .
