They used to be really bad in the early 2000s up near the run way, river mouth. Probably to do with the amount of crap coming out of the river. From memory they were always bad towards the end of the Seabreeze seasons. Was the same situation down around Dolls Point.

Yeah, I've been sailing Kyeemah for around 30 years. In the last 15 or so since the new car park opened I sail closer to the river mouth than I used to. The jellys are very bad at the moment and in many places. I saw them floating around at the beach between the swimmers... lots over against the runway. Really dense patch about 50m off the beach as you head out. Not too bad in the middle.

If you are able to stay upright when you hit them (pretty easy on a fin) and stay out of the drink, it is fine for sailing. A winger was complaining to me that if you hit one with the foil he almost always falls in.

I was there saturday 31/1/26, and the jellys were as bad as I can remember. Tried to stay out of the water and OK on a windsurfer (fin). Just feel the fin hitting them regularly. Probably pretty bad for foils as I imagine they could knock you over easily.

There are plenty of places in the various central coast lakes you can sail without a weed fin..... but if you want to sail the speed strips at Budgy/Canton where the water can be very flat, you need a weed fin and for some spots (budgy speed strip), a very shallow weed fin. Otherwise there is plenty of typical lake chop conditions that can be sailed without a weed fin. I've sailed a number of times on Lake Munmorah and Tuggerah from a couple different launch points depending on the wind direction. I'm from Sydney, but locals would know better.

I've never been to the budgy speed strip in really good conditions with the right equipment, but my PR on GPSTC for 2S speed was set at Canton on a cranking southerly with my FSW board with a normal weed fin around 28cm or so deep. I think that is too deep for the speed strip at budgy. I've only done budgy in NE where I was underpowered for my equipment (which is small-medium in maybe 20knots).... you still go very quick compared to anywhere else. in the same wind. Would love to get there on a 25-30knots day.

Thanks decrepit!

Just one more question. In my case, I did not notice the board getting soft. My first sign was water coming out of a crack in the board when packing up. So the board had gone soft and then the outer carbon shell had been able to move and with my feet pressing the movement had caused the shell to crack and then water ingress. So the outer shell now has noticable cracks. that leak water. Will this repair technique with the PU foam seal the cracks from water ingress? My plan was to drill holes, inject the PU foam through the holes and then fill what is left of the holes with Epocy resin. So the holes will be sealed. I am just not sure of the cracks. I believe the PU foam is closed cell and should not leak if not cracked, but just checking what others think?

Thanks Decrepit!

Not too worried about some weight. I think it would be lucky for more than 200mL to go in... and I had been probably sailing it a few sails with water ingress and it seemed fine. I never weighed it but probably took a few hundred mL of water out.

Wouldn't you be better off buying a 2nd hand board. I've just picked up a as new RRD (2014) for $200. How much are you going to spend on repair materials?

Yes I would if could find a deal like that.... but nothing in Sydney I can see anywhere near that. And freighting boards from WA is going to add a few hundred.

I'm happy to put a few $$ into an attempted repair. I like the board. Other than the soft deck it is in excellent condition. I get to learn something in the process.

But at the moment I don;'t know which 2 part PU foam I should get... so any suggestions welcome!

Hi All,

I think the board is pretty dried out now. I want to try the injecting two part foam method. Can anyone suggest which foam I should use and where to get it (I am in Sydney if that helps). I checked some of the linked posts of other repairs but could not see any specific mention of the foam material used.

It looks like I want to drill a grid (30mm?) of 4mm holes over the affected area and then use 50-100mL syringes to inject the foam outer rail back towards the inner deck direction. So the obvious items I need are just the foam and syringes. I guess I will need also some UV epoxy to coat and grip the deck afterwards I'm hoping if there are enough holes close enough together the pressure should be managable to not balloon the deck too much. Also, probably want the slower (lower heat) option for the foam.

If someone can point me in the right direction for the materials I will start ordering stuff to prep to give it a go. I realise this is a dodgy fix. I just want to get the board usable for a few more years for minimum $$ and effort.

Thanks in advance!

I did get a sail in at Budgie on the Falcon 89L. It was pretty good. Definately feels smaller than my Isonic 97. Gonna need more wind to use it.

I've decided to try and locate a new board a little larger than my Isonic 97.... looking for a Slalom/Freerace around 110L in good condition and modern design to suit modern sails (I use NP V8 2023). Not much around I can see. Please let me know if you are aware of anything.

I will also attempt to repair the Isonic. That will leave me with slalom boards in around 90/100/110L. I don't have a van to travel with, so will have to select the right board before I leave!

I've got a near not new Exocet RS4 111L you can borrow or buy! See my ad.

Hey Berowne,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for being slow in response. I was mostly offline for my 2 week break.

I can't find the add for your RS4. Is it still for sale?

Hi All,

I was out sailing yesterday and realised my older Isonic 97 has an issue (soft deck) that will probably get much worse if I continue to use it without addressing the issue properly. I am about to start my summer break and was hoping to get lots of sailing in. I was just reaching out to see if anyone has a board laying around they never use anymore and never got around to selling that I could buy/borrow? I have not got the budget to lay down thousands on a new board at the moment. Ideal would be a slalom/freerace board in 90-110L range with tuttle box but happy to consider anything that will get me on the water.

Oh... I am in Sydney, but happy to drive a couple hours away.

Cheers,

Adrian

Hi All,

I am about to start my summer break where I like to sail a lot. I went for a sail yesterday afternoon and realised my board (Old 2013 Isonic 97) has developed a soft deck and crack in front of the right front footstrap. Basically about 10cm X 5cm. I can push on on it and see water come out of the crack. I am just after a quick fix to sail over the next few weeks. I can redo the repair at a later date properly. Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide to do such a repair?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Adrian
