I was brutal to a crazy degree to the gear when a beginner, so it's a good thing I was renting back then.
And with hindsight, it is now also clear why that rental equipment was heavy and built like a tank.
You will also likely unintentionally be hard on the gear as a beginner - so you may not want it to be your own
Even 4.5 years later with my own equipment for more than 2 years, I found out the hard way that not all boards/sails are created equal.
I've buckled my Starboard Carve board and torn my Severne Convert sail (more than once). I saw that the kit I had could handle small jumps and catapults, so I kept on doing that - naive mistake - at some point you'll damage it.
Getting very durable gear in my location (even brand new) is turning out to be an endless hunt...

If y'all have got the patience for another question:

So the Severne Verso 138L is also available (for about17% more in price than the Tabou - I'm willing to go for it, if it really is robust - see below).
There are others, but at displacements that are probably too small for me.
See the description below from their site (www.severnesails.com/boards/verso/) - I don't know enough to judge whether or not this is significantly better than what I've got now, in terms of toughness. I also don't know if that's just a bunch of marketing bull.

ROBUST CONSTRUCTION
Full Wood deck and bottom layup with heavy-duty reinforcements. Biaxial Glass reinforcements between the impact zones i.e. mast track, nose, and heels. Rail Bands add parabolic reinforcements for added reactivity.

Thanks, Mark.
Good to know it's at least better than what I have now. I'll hunt around some more to see what else I can find that might be even better.

Hi All,
Reviving this post as I'm considering a board that has become available in my area in the right size for me (my board has started developing signs of a new imminent buckling).
It's the Tabou Rocket 145L MTE 2025 (tabou-boards.com/archive/windsurf-boards-2025/rocket-2025/).
So again, just to remind folks: I'm more interested in durability than performance.
Any insight if this board meets that goal?

Hi All,
Please see attached pic.
This is about a third of the way from the nose and goes from rail to rail, but only on bottom and rails (top is smooth).
Will it totally snap or can I still sail with it?
Does it pay to get it repaired?
Dang! This is a Starboard Carve I have less than 2 years.
Yes, I do catapult from time to time, with the mast hitting the rubber nose guard on top.
Is this normal? - only 2 freakin' years old?
