Etiquette is long gone in the pond, there use to be a loop/rotation system where when followed create more room for everyone but this stop years ago. Unfortunately there are people in the pond that like to short tack within the small area of the pond which makes the area even smaller for everyone. Stopping in the channel is a bit of a dick move in my opinion as it stops the flow for the riders in the pond and people have to wait and rearrange. Though most people do it now as they don't want to go outside the pond.
Unless the pond opens back up this is just going to be how it is now.
