After some input from the brains trust.

Current Foil setup
- North Sonar HM 85cm Mast
- North Sonar 1230SF Foil
- North Sonar S215 Stabilizer
- North Sonar Carbon Fuselage 700mm

I've had this setup for over a year and a half, really like it, but my concern is that from the beginning I never felt like the GeoLock tapered interface, designed to ensure a tight mast-fuse connection was not as tight as it should be. I usually leave the system together and dissemble periodically for cleaning and maintenance. Today I noticed a hairline crack just starting to appear in the fuse in front of the insert. Also, I feel the fit is worse with more play than would be expected, and it appears that the base of the mast is touching the bottom of the fuse insert preventing the tapering from doing it's thing. I expect to be some wear, but since it was ordinary from the beginning...a bit more than one would expect.

Not try to brand bash as I'm about to order a new fuse and see if the fit is better.

Just would like to know if anyone had tolerance/mismatch issues?

What was the end result?

Ive had the 65 and 70 Carbon setups for two years w no problem. I also jump quite often on the 830 and 680 SF's. My fuse to mast connection is super tight. Haven't had to torque a screw in over half a year. Always find the first time slowly cranking it down unnerving but other than that all good. I've actually been surprised that I haven't yet when I get a big launch in the waves. Wonder if you just got a bad one. I grease the screw maybe twice a year and use a rubber mallet to tap off.

Update: I've had some time on the Kai 8'4" Surf and 8'8" ML (wife's board) in anything from waist high beach breaks to a head high point break. both are really fun and perform exactly as advertised. The ML, as you can tell from the outline has a naturally more drawn out turn, but is super fun to washout the tail in cutbacks. It's a very stable board, fast paddler. Liked it both in a Keel setup and Twin plus nub. The Surf is one of the most high performance SUP's I've been on. I was worried it would be too rockered out but it's fast and will turn as hard as you dare. Liked it both in a MR Twin plus nub and thruster Reactor Large.

One complaint. The handle only fits 3 fingers, the boards are light but I don't get it at all. I'm not sure what they were thinking, I like the narrowness as it's out of the way but the length could've been there and depth so you can get a decent grip. Other than that, they knocked it out of the Park.

Yeah, the Goya One 12 thang threw me off as well but the blue one posted above in a 105 liter is what I'm looking at. Latest current model.

Thanks for the input, I have the new 99 Tri and it's great but too close to my quad. Wanting the 105 to blast around and side on cond's.

Do you mean the one being teased on Instagram? I think that is just a video from their team rider Noe.

Perhaps..my dealer says most companies will launch in March when they ramp up. I have gear from numerous brands but I'm perfectly happy w my North S680 and DW820 and UHM80. I've tested against some Code and KT and it's a toss up. All I want right now is the North 73UHM and I'm set for awhile. It's not my gear holding me back right now ;). I'm working on foil slides and more aggressive moves on the wave this year. ;)

Huge transition this is. So first you fire all the talented people only to have to hire and build the whole thing in the other side of the world. Because you didn't believe in remote working / virtual meetings etc. I'm based in Europe and regularly work with Pacific counterparts. Yes the time diff is big but not insurmountable.

They just ditched the NZ / Auckland yachting / sports maritime innovation hub sphere, where they enjoyed great conditions waves etc plus local competition (Axis, Armstrong) to go and sit in offices in Katwijk, Netherlands.

And then they will move product development and testing to where? Again to another wind/wavy hotspot like South Africa? Tarifa? Portugal?

What a massive undertaking

Its always sad when people lose there jobs, but regarding to the testing: we (I live 30min from Katwijk) don,t have the pacific waves, but it is pleny windy here. I can besides a 32h job easily get a 150sessions a year in combined wingfoil, supfoil, DW.North windsurf and Mystic are also located there so from a brand integration pov I get it when they move everything to one spot.
What I do hope that in time they can also bring the production from Asia to Europe...

Agreed. I'm bummed about losing the NZ crew but they did it the right way by completing the 26 Launch. Hopefully North brings on some great riders for testing and the Technical staff to push our foiling.

Just back from Baja. I rode the DW900 and DW820 paired with the S178 stab. Wind 18-24mph each day. Swell 4-9ft. I love the 820 over the 900. The 820 has greater glide and lift. It pops up and rides high on the swell. Glides with minimal pump between bumps. The 900 was draggy and oven I found the swell overtaking me. I had to pump more than the 820 to keep my speed and keep up with the swell. I also found both paired nicely with the S178. The 820 liked a no shimmed stab. The 900 like a -.5 shim. The specs between the 900and 820 are so close, yet the ride experience is amazingly different, hard to believe but it is just better. I also tried the s145 stab, I either don't like it or need more time on it to figure it out. It was very loose and felt unstable in all three axis. But that may just be me. I would like to try the S158 and S142 at some point. Anyone have experience on these two stabs? Or experiences with shimming?

I've had the 145 and 142 for awhile. If it's a wave day I put the 145 on, it turns slightly tighter. However, I've been using the 142 more and more lately, it glides slightly better, it feels slightly faster and the pump is a little more aggressive. Mostly ride w the S680 and DW820. I've gotten to where I only use my S830 for really light wind days. I haven't felt the need to shim w North, though I've been tempted to - shim on some really windy days to push the upper limit.

The article I read says the 26/27 product is complete and will start flowing out March/April. Sounds like it was a good handoff.

What's your weight? Im also interested in the Kai ML 8'8.
Being 94 kg and currently riding a 8'6 Quatro Glide Pro 130 liters, 7,8 kg

I'm 80 kg's. I felt the board was every bit as stable as her old 8'10" Quatro Glide Pro 140 liters. Far more surfy. On the Glide I'd have to really step back on the tail to get a good bottom turn and keep the rails out of the water. On the ML you can surf it more forward if you like or step back and it carved very nicely. It really has an old school fish shape. Unlike the Old Glide w the full rails the ML rails are really turned down nicely.

Finally got a sesh on my wife's 8'8" x 31" 140 liter Kai Vault ML
The Board

Looks like a piece of art right out of the box. I'm more of a flat sheen but wife loves the gloss. Weighed in at 17 lbs/7.7kgs. That's a 1/2 lb lighter than my 8'2" Blue Carbon Spice. ;) Doesn't come w fins but I have plenty of FCS2 fins to test. Ran Keels w a nub off and on to compare. Handle is a smaller 3 finger type and not great for long hauls.
On The Water

Board paddles super straight and smooth as advertised. Slides into waves super easy. Board is fast and I was surprised at how well it turned. There's a very pronounced V w the double concaves that lets you crank it around. Really not much difference between Twin or Twin w nub. Will test with a more upright Twin fin when we get waves again.
Conclusion: The board was all I was hoping for, I mean for her ;). Will be fun on smaller waves and places where I have a long paddle to break. I personally would've rather had the 8'6" but.it's for the wife's get out and paddle days. The board is thick but has some great downturned rails. I'm knit picking but I'd like the last 1.5 feet towards the tail even thinner.
