My standard practice is to put duct tape or a strong sticker over minor dings then get them professionally repaired when it's convenient.

Dings and stuff are easy enough to repair but getting a cosmetically perfect finish is difficult. It takes skill and specialist gear and colour matching and all the rest. It can get expensive if you're buying small batches of materials and tools to do a one off job.

I use this for drip dry hanging the wet wetsuit after washing.

For wetsuit storage I just use an ordinary plastic hanger and hang the suit over the cross bar.

For complete drying and booties I use a DryGuy boot dryer. I let the wetsuit drip/air dry overnight then hang it so legs sit overa pair ofboot pipes, with the booties on the other pipes. It takes about 5 hours to fully dry a 6mm suit.

I've used every other system of wetsuit drying and much more expensive electric wetsuit dryers. The heating element always gives up. The boot dryer is cheaper, lasts longer and works very well for wetsuit and booties.

Actually hanging the wetsuit over a heating duct works better, but it's inconvenient and only works in cold weather. Surprisingly it's harder to air dry a wetsuit in Melbourne in spring and summer because the nights are cool and still.

So I scrounged around the various local web stores and found an Icon in my size. It was a bit of a mission, made a little longer for ensuring the unfamiliar web shop wasn't a scammer. Most shops had a very limited choice of size and colours. I ordered a large for my 58cm head so I can wear it over anything I want.

On arrival it looked a bit bulky, but fit ok with no noticeable pressure points from a peaked surf cap with ear flaps (for sun protection of my ears) and sunglasses.

I used it yesterday, and apart from some ribbing about looking like a Star Wars pilot, I mostly didn't notice I had it on for a fairly full on session. So that's a win.

There were no high speed falls during the session so I can't comment on mass or bucket effect. I think that not feeling like I was wearing a helmet means that's going to be pretty good.

At the one hour point I did notice a pressure point on the very top of my head. I'm guessing the flat padding on the top of the helmet, my bald head and the seam binding in the cap made a hard spot. I have other caps I can try.

In the past every helmet I have had with some form of clicky adjuster has failed at the first hard crash (mainly from kite loops). There's nothing worse than a big crash and an exploding helmet. Those kind of crashes are a bit less common winging and I'm hoping they've learned to make the adjusters more robust.

I have always shut my eyes, squeezed into a ball with my chin on my chest, and wrapped an arm over my head. When things calm down I open my eyes for a look. That's all pretty automatic and takes no real time at all. The only time I've been down for any real time has been in the surf.

Here's a thread on the Vaikobi bump hat. I bought one, didn't fit and left the back pof the head exposed.

I returned it and bought an EN certified shell to put in an old surf sun hat for $20. It has a bit better protection at the back.

I started an Icon thread to ask some questions about it.

This helmet has been praised in a number of threads. I have some questions.

The helmet has disappeared from the Oakley web site and there's only limited sizes and colours available. It looks like the product ight be discontinued. Does anybody have any info about that.

My Gath Gedi squishes the arms of my sunglasses against temples eventually causing pain. Does the Icon play well with sunglasses?

According to the size chat y 58cm head is at the top of the M size or the bottom of the L size (which is relatively scarce). Can anybody comment on the fit if the helmet particularly in the larger size?
