I've ridden a ridiculous amounts of all kinds of boards prone. This current trend to ride specialist "gut sliders" that are bulky, over foamed boards are missing the mark unless you are only riding them in small, weak waves. You only need enough foam to catch the wave and if you go short enough to use flippers they give a boost into the wave when kicking into it as the wave steepens. Have pinched rails that you can lock into the wave face when taking off and some fins to help with grip for control. Gut sliders with fuller rails ain't going to cut it for hollower waves/larger waves.
