About N.W. Tasmania (West Takone) Radar

The radar coverage is 360 degrees and encompasses much of Bass Strait, Tasmania's northwest, central north and to a lesser extent, the northeast and the west coast as far south as Strahan. The coverage to the south is limited in range by the Central Plateau. Radar images are created using radar echoes. False echoes are sometimes visible on the radar display — particularly over areas close to the nearby pine plantations and in damp conditions. Special weather conditions over Bass Strait can also produce false rain echoes.
