Exciting LT racing last Sunday in 10-18 knots gusty fluky west to north westers. Last week's racing was the opening "Short Course" race series for the season held at Mounts Bay Sailing Club. Three windward and return short races (not so short for some!) was scheduled with separate starts 3 minutes apart with the Sharpie and Foiling Moth classes.

The LT fleet was met with some savage gusts as well as some frustrating lulls however Julian Atkinson mastered the tricky conditions to claim his maiden LT winner's flag. Second was another new LT sailor Alastair Mckinnon followed in third by Greg Willmott

Unfortunately the rest of the fleet was disqualified for making the rookie error of failing to sign on.

Don't forget to sign on and wear an approved vest for all racing at MBSC

Racing is on next Sunday at 2pm at Mounts Bay Sailing Club, briefing at 1pm. Sunday looking like an easterly course at this stage, course details advised on the day

MBSC is the Home of the 20/21 World Windsurfer LT Titles.
Many of you will remember the 1984 Worlds in Perth and how fantastic it was.
If you are keen on big fleet racing this is your chance as we are expecting 200+ at the 20/21 event. The LT has been reported as the fastest growing sailing class in the world so participation is strong.

Yes. I understand there were 85 charter boards for international entrants, in Lake Garda for the 2019 LT worlds. I also understand that there is a current plan, still to be officially confirmed, that there will be at least 100 charter boards for the 2020 LT Worlds in Perth and these will be for international competitors only.

MBSC Windsurfer LT Racing Results Sunday 27 October 2019

There's a new kid on the block! Newbie Clive Swanson (aka "handy swanny") sailed a brilliant race to take out his maiden winner's flag at last Sunday's MBSC racing

The race was held on the southwesterly MBSC course in the bay in 8-12 knot SW.

The lead changed regularly during the afternoon but Clive showed his considerable light wind skills by taking out the win narrowly from Mike Ingram.

Mark was third followed by Richard and Greg

Big thanks to the volunteer starting team of Snides and Cheryl (pictured) who stayed on the water all afternoon starting the S80's, Sharpies, LT's. GP's as well as multiple Foiling Moth starts.

Mounts Bay Sailing club relies on it's member volunteers to make the Sunday Racing possible, please continue to turn up and support your club

Hope to see you all at the MBSC racing next week, race starts at 2pm, briefing at 1pm

MBSC Windsurfer LT Racing Results Sunday 10 November 2019

Another beautiful 8-12 knot west/south westerly day for racing for the first Club Heat on the MBSC 2019/20 sailing calendar. A solid fleet of 14 starters lined up to race including seasoned and experienced world class LT Windsurfer sailors Peter Monkhouse and Nick Poll as well as Cheryl Draper on her windsurfer foil board Tabou Rocket 130 with NP Glide.

Mounts Bay Sailing Club rear commodore Steve Schneider took home the winners pennant and showed the fleet how to negotiate the tricky and challenging bay conditions with skill and guile.

Snides picked the wind shifts up the last beat to overtake leader at the last turning mark Class Captain Mark Taylor.

Mike Ingram followed closely in third, then Past Commodore Peter Schneider and not far adrift in 5th regular MBSC Windsurfer LT racer Richard Grauaug

A big warm welcome to new MBSC member Sam Cinanni who battled around the course on his heavy old poly Windsurfer One Design with a 6.0 RAF sail. Sam will be better for the sail at his first club race and is a welcomed addition to the MBSC Windsurf LT fleet.

Another massive thanks to the volunteer Mounts Bay Sailing Club starting and finishing teams and rescue boat crews

Mounts Bay Sailing club relies on it's member volunteers to make the Sunday Racing possible, please continue to turn up and support your club.

The Lightweight World Champion Tim Gourlay takes his children for a sail last weekend off MBSC.

RACING RESULTS FOR SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2019
Last Sunday's Racing was the first Mounts Bay Sailing Club "Mini Series" for season 2019/2020

A series of three mini races are held in the bay consisting of windward return legs (two upwind and two downwind legs).

Racing was again held in light shifting west southwesterly winds between about 8-14 knots, making for close and tactical racing between the fleet of 11 starters.

Each of the three races had a different winner. Past Commodore Peter Schneider showed the LT fleet that sailing talent in the Schneider family runs deep by taking out the first race with ease.

The second heat was won convincingly by class veteran Nick Poll and MBSC Windsurfer LT Class Captain Mark Taylor narrowly took the winner's pennant home in race #3.

Newcomer Sam showed a massive improvement on the Demo LT board and will be looking to improve again this week on his new board.

Results For Race #1
1. Peter Schneider
2. Mike Ingram
3. Simon King

Important Notice Re MBSC Membership

us20.campaign-archive.com/?u=c640bbbd2359a02b4622f6ab7&id=3d12767807&e=20ed377539

Effective immediately you must be a financial member of the Club to use the club grounds/facilities at ALL TIMES and or to participate in the weekly Sunday racing (unless by invitation), the offer of FREE RACING is no longer on the table.

As you would be aware Mounts Bay Sailing Club have generously offered their racing program and Club facilities for free to Windsurfer LT Sailors for all of last season and the first part of this season.

This initiative was designed not only to get the LT Racing Fleet off the ground in WA but also to bolster MBSC's Membership

Steve Schneider has been the driving force behind this generous MBSC offer and must take the credit for growth of the Windsurfer LT racing fleet in WA to date.

Unfortunately all good things come to an end and the MBSC Management Committee have decided to withdraw this offer effective immediately.

I encourage all Windsurfer LT sailors to join the Club, in the scheme of things it is not expensive and will be healthy for the growth of the Windsurfer Class in WA.

Australian Sailing have advised that yacht club membership will be a pre- requisite to register for the 2020 Windsurfer Worlds to be hosted by MBSC. Club membership is also typically required in many regattas as prescribed by the applicable Notice of Race.

Please act NOW, there is still lots of Sunday racing to come this season..all membership enquiries should be directed to Sarah at the MBSC Office.

MBSC Windsurfer LT RACING RESULTS Sunday 24 November 2019

(Credits for all images to Matt Holder @Reflex Films)

Ballistic 22-27 knot conditions for last Sunday's windsurfing LT racing saw half of the 20 strong starting fleet retire before the end of the first race (toughen up princesses!). Mounts Bay Sailing Club set up another 3 mini race windward return series in the bay, an invitation event designed to get some action footage for the Worlds Teaser video.

The cream rose to the top with Scotty McKercher, Mike Galvin, Tim Gourlay and Nick Poll dominating in all of the three races.
Thanks to the MBSC volunteer starting and rescue teams (including Snides) who bounced around in very unpleasant conditions for nearly 3 hours while we all enjoyed the racing.

MBSC Windsurfer LT RACING RESULTS Sunday 1 December 2019

Fantastic 14-16 knot southwesterly conditions for last Sunday's Mounts Bay Sailing Club windsurfing racing.

8 Starters lined up for a mid river south easterly course which was quickly changed to a southwesterly course as the late sea breeze filled in.

As the wind strengthened we enjoyed perfect conditions sailing a brand new course in Melville Water East.

Welcome to our two new MBSC members Julian Atkinson and Clive Swanson.

MBSC Class Captain Mark Taylor led the way to a well deserved win after a tight tussle with Mike and Julian. The back markers stayed in touch with the leaders and the whole fleet was tightly bunched for most of the day.

MBSC Windsurfer LT RACING RESULTS Sunday 8 December 2019

A
solid 20-22 knot southwesterly breeze greeted the Mounts Bay LT Windsurfer sailors for our Sunday race on 8 December.

Rigging space on the club lawn was hard to find as preparations ramped up for the World Moth Championships hosted by MBSC

Off the beach start was the order of the day for the Windsurfers with Cheryl and Steve handling the starting duties.

The long downwind run to the first mark resulted in a tight mark rounding with Julian, Mark and Michael fighting for the lead.

Michael quickly stamped his dominance on the fleet and romped away in the heavy conditions showing class and style in his resounding win.

The top three sailors all recorded speeds in excess of 20 knots on the long reach to the mark off Como Jetty and the 20km + course tested all starters

Results for MBSC Club Race 8 December 2019

Info from Sunday 8th Dec club race-sourced winner Michael Ingram, FIRST AND FASTEST at MBSC.

Course distance (rhumbline) = 10.8 km
Sailed distance (by me) = 17.1 km
Max speed 19.8 knots (20.7 knots after the race)
Ave speed 7.1 knots

"If you look at my course, I made a few poor decisions going upwind on legs 4 and 6, tacking at the wrong time and over-standing marks.Mast base right at the front, centreboard almost half-up going upwind, and sail had downhaul on 5.7 and 40 on the boom / outhaul. The sail was a bit too flat going downwind but was easier to handle upwind. Another mistake was not putting the centreboard right down when the wind lightened off near the finish in the lee of the club."

MBSC Windsurfer LT RACING RESULTS Sunday 22 December 2019

A
very pleasant 16-18 knot southwesterly breeze saw new MBSC member Clive Swanson blitz the fleet to take out the last club race for season 2019. Clive showed his considerable medium weather upwind skills and was never challenged by any sailors in the fleet.

Clive narrowly avoided getting cleaned up by the paddle steamer SS Decoy just before the MBSC finish line to comfortably record his maiden winners flag in front of Mark Taylor

A fast improving Past Commodore Peter Schneider was leading the fleet on the first upwind beat however he sailed to the wrong mark (attend the briefing please)

A perfect day to finish the 2019 year
