I think it's more about having big balls than skills. Nils is not a wave sailor and managed to survive there so anyone with solid windsurfing skills can sail there on a day with reasonable conditions. It's just super sketchy, so I'd rather sail the recreational spots.

Are you saying you don't need a high level of skill to ride waves of that size?
Nils is not a wave sailor? So if he isn't wave sailing in that video, what is he doing?
Are you claiming that you don't need to be a competent wave sailor to charge main break in 'reasonable' conditions?
Margaret River is super sketchy? What makes it super sketchy? The big waves or the locals? Is it still super sketchy when there is no swell?
You'd rather sail recreational spots? What does that even mean? Is Margaret river not a recreational spot?
Is it just me or is your entire statement complete nonsense?

He says "anyone with solid windsurfing skills" but implies courage helps
In his video 25 Feb Nils literally says he is a beginner in wave sailing. Clearly a freaking good windsurfer who has broken 50kts.
He says "anyone with solid windsurfing skills"
I interpreted that conditions can be challenging
He lists Coros as a favourite spot...so...
Made sense to me
Don't know either of you, just had a very different take on ptsf1111's post

Need alot of confidence in your ability to hit that lip.Hard wave to work out if you don't go out there often.
Thanks paddymac, that's exactly what I meant.
I don't consider my wave sailing skills good enough to sail main break, but I could still sail there if I wanted and stay on the shoulder a little bit. Sketchy meaning: shallow, interesting entry/exit, generally light or gusty winds, sharks, massive waves. If you break stuff there or you get injured, you're in trouble.
I think spots like Coros are more accessible for recreational sailors like myself. There's many hardcore wave sailors in this area, who are - in my opinion - close to pro level and feel at home at sketchy breaks like Gnaraloo and Margs. It's not for me, yet
(I sailed Tombstones twice).
You can be a crap windsurfer and sail big waves. just have to be good at holding your breath and swimming. Any half competent sailor can have a crack, just lacking the courage (self preservation) that gets in the way not skill. Margs looks an easy wave to sail, hard to sail well.

Serious comment, not kidding, but am laughing. There are several sailors in that video. Including the sailor on a Severne sail. Nils is in Oz with Patrik testing all the new boards, including wave/freewave/B&J. Have a look at his other videos.
If you read the comments, he says the wind that day was light, so he didnt go out. But he did sail on others days when there was wind. Video of that coming soon.
I was out at Lanno last week with Nils and it was big enough to be dodgy at times. Had a nice chat with him and hes really enjoying his time in Oz. Will be here for a few more weeks too. :)
