Got more back into sailing after a bit of time off with my little girl! She's now two which allows more time to do what we used to do! Anyway how good is Australia's second hand market? Flooded with kit! This nude chopper 99 second hand for $300 and s1 pro 5.2 and 100% severe mast for $500. That's less than a new sail! I'm all for supporting local stores but why would you buy new with so much second hand kit? Someone else had a post about '16 starby reactors going for so cheap - it's not that it's bad kit the market is just flooded! Anyway was great to get out on some newer kit! Yeuww

I think if anyone has second hand gear they want to get rid of and upgrade they should go to their local shop and give them first option on it and trade in if possible. If they don't want to do the deal or aren't interested in the gear then sell it privately. The second hand gear from the shop will cost a little bit extra but it won't be that much and it gives the shop a chance to make a few bucks to make ends meet which means they will be around to sell new gear in the future. Without new gear being sold there will be no second hand market that's worth squat in the near future.

Buying new boards and sails isn't really an option for me. Basically too dear and I seem to wreck everything anyway... The late model second hand is great. Gives people with more modest incomes a chance to ride good quality gear- with just a little wear and tear. The folks who original owned the gear new get to up-date to the latest stuff to hit the market. This circle will certainly make life easier for the next generation to take up the sport.

Monofilm ages. And you really have to trust the guy selling the board on what it's been through (I don't think they are ever the same after taking on water). Having said that, $3500 RRP for a new board (and most people need at least 2 to get reasonable TOW) is ridiculous.

What you are currently seeing is simply the result of the mining boom years. Plenty of money was floating around between 2010 and 2015 with a lot of people buying brand new gear. That gear is now hitting the market. It's not just windsurfing. The same is happening for other consumer products such as bikes as well.

I am guessing once the interest rates start going up both the used market and new market will get a lot leaner as people will put their spare cash towards paying the mortage rather then buying windsurf gear.

Sweet east coast set up. The resin tint NUDE boards are hard to hide any damage that one looks good for 300

yeah to be fair the sails and mast was off a good mate - but still a bargain

the board is sick i had it out about 20 mins after buying it - how often does that happen! cheers PhilSWR. It has had a repair on the underside of the nose but its all good for $300
