.... California coast I reckon ... Davenport landing near Santa Cruz, South of the more famous Wadell Creek.

Yep, confirmed, been there, that's about 3 hrs. north of me. We've been having an awesome winter into spring, with many big swells, here along the California central coast, one of the best years in a long time. It's still good, got some OH sets last week using 4.7's, and our consistent windy season is just beginning.
That vid looks like the swell we got about a month ago, just like my spot, light wind on the inside, can be a challenge on a big day. 'Davi' has more rocks though, not one of my favorite spots when it's light on the inside, which is often.

Cant compare to Tassie as Tasmania does not have a place called Davenport We do have this a couple of hours from Devonport though

Talked to Doug about 3 weeks ago. He's still windsurfing and sup'ing, but mostly in the bay.
He didn't know the SC coast, and the beach he stayed overnight in was one beach from the firehouse stairs of OLD Davenport Landing, the one that Dick Keating was kneeboarding on a contraption with handlebars on in Natural Art. The stairs down from the back of the firehouse property go down to within 8' of the beach, and a light climb up the rocks with a surfboard in hand allows surfer's to surf at that old but forgotten right reef break.
Talking about the one just across the street from the Davenport Landing store and hotel, not the new "Swanton" Davenport that everyone now sails and surfs.

That first pic is the South Reef at Davenport Landing.
If the windsurfer sailed out to the North Reef, he'd get side/offshore winds, smooth water, same size waves, and 3 times longer rides. The winds bend slighlty side off on the N reef, while the cliffs protect the water from getting chopped up, so you can really lay down your bottom turns ...in smoother waters.
