where's the best wavesailing and freestyle spots down the bottom of the mornington peninsula? I'm here from SA for a while and haven't a clue where to go!
Cheers
Good morning, Muzza,
The open back beaches are notorious for their rocks and shore dump, so you need to be careful at places like Rye, Sorrento, etc. On low swell days (say 1.0m), they can be very good but usually the wind is not present.
Best known spot is Flinders/Big Left (2 different spots). Be careful at the Flinders car park, because lots of gear is stolen from parked cars.
When you go around into WesternPort Bay, places like Shoreham, Point Leo are very good for small waves.
Back in Port Phillip Bay, almost anywhere is good for freestyling, as long as the wind is present (say Safety Beach to Sorrento). The area near the yacht club at Rye is popular for windsurfing in NW, N and NE'erlies.
Hope this helps.
Hey Muzza,
Today and tomorrow are going to be W to SW so most likely your best options in the local area will be in Port Phillip Bay. Try Safety Beach or Mt. Martha. If it was more SW then wave sailing at Point Leo might be an option.
If you're up for a drive, it is always meant to be windier at Sandy Point on a SW.
Good luck.
