The Final Kids club for 2011 and we nearly had to be called off! Luckily the weather did not deteriorate as much as expected and it continued as planned.
As the BOM forecast spelled trouble, it was decided to push the session out an hour, which turned out unnecessary as it didn't get as bad as expected.
Special congratulations are extended to two of the students that passed their Certificate 1 tests. Both achieved very high pass marks in both their practical and theory components of their windsurfing certification. Both students will be able to continue on to Certificate 2 level next year.
There was a new gadget at the kids club that made its debut. The iDO was donated to us by Starboard International, and turned out to be a real hit amongst our youngsters. Never have we seen 5 year olds take to the water with such ease. The iDO will be one of the things that make a massive difference in the take-up of windsurfing amongst youngsters.
Kids Club restarts again from the 3rd Jan 2012 and have Kids Club every Tuesday and Thursday concluding on the 26th Jan. Please get your registrations in early as we are already close to capacity with kids and the last thing I want to do is turn anyone away!
On Sunday the 29th Jan from 4.30 till 6.30 WV will be holding the Graduation ceremony for the students from the kids club. Parents, grandparents and friends are welcome for a BBQ. Costs are $10 per adult and kids $5. We will be sending out more information on this very soon. We will however require you to register in advance so that we can finalise numbers for catering.
The children will be receiving their graduation certificates and there will be awards and prizes, along with the announcement of the WV Kids Club presidents award for one lucky child!!!
Parents that are able to assist during the school holiday program can you please let me know. We are very light on people over these few weeks. It doesn't matter if you can windsurf or not, just as long as you are prepared to get wet!
2011 - 2012 WV Kids Club Rashies are ready to be ordered.!!! http://windsurfingvictoria.toctopus.com/shop/view_product/Kids_Club?n=2462583&o=0
*Please note that it takes about 3 or more weeks for them to arrive so get your orders in early!!!
Great job and dedication from you guys at WV, would be good to see some young talents arising from this ![]()
We really do need more volunteers for this. We had 18 kids today!
I'm going back to work next week so I can't help any more.
You don't need to be able to teach especially. We've got it down to shouting ten things out - I'll post these on another thread with the video when we've done it.
Failing that. We still need people capable of stopping kids from sailing out into the middle of the bay and spotting if any of them are turning blue!
If anyone can help out then please do so... as much as I loved being there the first day, I've had to go back to work also... the guys are doing a great job - too good if you ask me...
Thanks Stu & Jerzy - my eldest can now duck gybe ! You bet I haven't heard the last of it !
This grass roots growth in our sport is critical...
Yes, the guy's are really, really going to need some help over the next few weeks, so if you can, please do.
There were 12 Kids on Thursday and at times it was a handfull. Stuart and myself are back to work next week, but I have arranged Thursdays off. So Jerzy really needs some more assistance.
It,s great fun watching the Kids learning, so again, if you can, please help out.
This Thursday is the last day of the WV Kids Club for this season. I would like to pass on a big thank you to WV's development team leader Jerzy, the other WV helpers, SHQ and SBHQ for their support. Also the families and the stars of the program, the kids. Well done to all.
The last WV Kids Club day yesterday went off with 7x kids graduating on top the 4 kids who already graduated. All graduates received a WV 2011-2012 membership allowing them access to the WV Teach a Mate program, which includes 4x kids rigs with 8 sails, a kids board and the adult gear for their parents. Plus a nation sail number they can boast about to their school mates and all the other WV membership inclusions such as event insurance.
Alex Foot also won the President award, picking up a NP Kids waist harness thanks to WV and SHQ.
The next WV newsletter will have a full wrap of the WV Kids Club program from WV's development team leader, Jerzy.
If your kids missed this seasons program, next season we will run another program with addional items. Between now and then, there should be other related WV events for the kids, so stay tuned to WV.
I forgot to mention the youngest member of the WV Kids Club who performed so well was 5 1/2 years old. Looks like we have a strong growth path ahead of us.
Thanks guys..it was awesome...Alex loves his harness...he wears it round the house...now all that is needed is a board...we have the sails...and he is very very nagging! You have hooked him! He was extremely excited to hear there will be a cert 2 next year and that he had to have his own gear. Mum has to go back to work! (so we can both have some gear). Apparantly they don't have this sort of kids event in other australian locations so we are very privelaged. WV commitee are outstanding people! We hope to keep in touch.
