Hi all,
I am moving to Ballarat next year and would welcome any advice on launching locations and recommended wind directions from the western side of the bay (figuring this is more accessible?). I'm a returning windsurfer who can plane/waterstart/get in the straps etc and have spent most of my time over the last year sailing from Kyeemagh in Botany Bay, so I am obviously not concerned with jelly fish, jet fuel and jet skis??. Just enjoy sailing around.
Thanks in advance
Craig

Swan Bay, Queenscliff. Point Henry, Geelong. Lake Connewarre, Brinsmead Ln, Leopold. There are other spots but these are a good start. Need Weed fins

Around Ballarat you've also got some interesting lakes.
there are a few sailors around that you see down near the yacht club
Lake Windermere in town is sailable...(can't remember which direction works)
further out of town you've got lake burrumbeat...and if there's enough water Lake Learmonth can be a bit of fun.

St Leonard's in a northerly (preferably NNE) is a good spot. Had a few nice sessions there through winter. Bit of a drive but really refreshing sailing a northerly on port tack. Some pretty decent ramps out the back too. Launch opposite the Salt Lagoon. Avoid any days where it tends NW or has a SW change otherwise you can get stuck out in offshore wind. Tends to be good when Green Pt too NNE. I found the wind is pretty much identical to Sth Channel.
