Planning on going here for some learning / practice:

Any idea where there is parking that is close to rigging up areas?

Cheers advanced.

Link doesn't work

Good spot in light winds (i.e. when there are no kiters around) is to park up next to the kite beach (got to pay for parking) rig up on the median strip of beach road.

The water is reasonably shallow and very protected. Good for lightwind playing. Bit of a hike across the sand, but you can manage that.

EDIT - on Beaconsfield Parade between Fraser St and Cowderoy St

Thanks for that. One of the entourage is worried about needles? Is it that common these days?

Thousands of people, including kids, play/swim in the waters of St Kilda to Port Melbourne... No needles to worry about.

Yeah - whoever is worried about needles is massively out of date.

Junkies can't afford St. Kilda and Port Melbourne any more.

Apparently the beach down there used to be a bit of a mess, but I've been windsurfing there for three years and it's clean as a whistle. Unfortunately the reputation remains.

For free parking drive (from the south) along the beach road and just past the 2 kite surfing trailer cabins on your left, take a U-turn at the next turn you can do so and its free parking on the inland side on the beach road.
Carry you stuff to the central grass reservation, rig there, then carry your kit rigged up over the other half of the road when theres a gap in the traffic lights
