Don't know about you, but that was that the worst water conditions I've ever experienced at RP last night.

Maybe it was the easterly wind blowing hard for much of the day, thus causing the very short wind swell, combined with the incoming tide.

I thought you gave up windsurfing and took up kite flying ?

Yeah it was pretty large and lumpy with about a 2-3 second period swell!

Yep it was bloody messy. Seems to me that the wind may have had more south in it earlier in the arvo which built up the swell then you had the tide ripping against the easterly wind chop so it just stood up. It was also really closely spaced so very hard to get any relief from that relentless pounding and launching.
I have sailed there for 25 years and that was probably the messiest I have ever seen it.

Agree, very challenging conditions plus the south in it and patchiness of the wind forced me over the reef. Got stuck with a 23cm wave fin on my way in, ripping the screw out and ending the session prematurely. Luckily no other damage just the thorns of sea urchins in my foot keep reminding me to stay well clear of the reef next time.

Almost ended there too myself... thanked my lucky stars for a new thruster set up and short fins! Also realised that the new 'no boating' sign means we really should be coming in near table rock, so walked up to the southern end of the beach and launched again.

I actually thought it was one of the better SE's I have sailed there in years! Finally some decent ramps to get some height
It sure was short period chop though - hard landings into the faces of the next wave occasionally

nuked on the 4.2 though

Agree it was pretty sick fun, good to see peeps amped, spinning in the air and smashing it , better off on a single fin when it's like that. There's usually a bit of a window with the tide and wind where the ramps are sweet, Got even windier after most had left the water, was time to add a bit more downhaul to the 5.3. Sails today have a great wind range if you take the time to adjust them.,

Looks like a brand new move at 1:22 - the Pogo!

People seem to like my ramblings for some reason Sputnik so I have started to leave them in, it must add to the atmosphere LOL. Use to sail Mentone Ginger but always found it too patchy and gusty compared to just gusty at Ricketts.

Nah, but fun trying, You landed some nice clean ones though.

Other great options in a howling easterly are:
- Port Melbourne
- Altona (east of the jetty)
- Williamstown

Personally, I'd rate all 3 more fun than Ricketts, but wind can be a bit flukey at Port Melbourne.
In 30knot+ easterly, Altona and Williamstown are both awesome with some of best jumping on the bay. Greg Allaway ("Grubby") has been spotted out there on occasions.

They could be a back up for King of the Bay now that Pookipa is dead. For those that haven't noticed, the no vessels
marker has been moved south of the main jumping zone at Pookipa, meaning we have to sail upwind of it.

In 25+ knots I don't think anyone's gonna mind too much about signage.

the whole thing **s me - some nonsensical non sailing areas

I do remember the police getting into a surf rescue boat with lifesavers at dendy street many years back say 15 years . They were chasing a local sailer continually sailing in the no boat area The windsurfer was faster than boat. Very wet ride for all in the boat many laughs on the beach.
In the end the sailer came in spoke to police no charges. They were not happy
