Hi all,
Sailed Paynesville to Lakes Entrance on my old Raceboard with 7.5m yesterday, wind died out and made it a slow trip 2 1/2 hours
. Hope to get some newer gear soon and do some more long trips.
I love the Gippsland lakes! so many great sailing spots and plenty of wind. I haven't been there in over 20 years, would love to get back there some day.
Hi, Twicebitten! Suppose you will look at a big Starboard? What is your present board and fin? I have tried quite a few long funboards, gone to seats around the garden..
Saw you come past as we were approaching Lakes.
We were paddling the same course/race from Paynesville on sup's as part of the Gippsland Lakes Challenger Paddle Marathon.
Great day on the water!
Hmm.. you should have entered the sea kayak class where sails are allowed. Thier standard sail is point eight meter, should have kept them in sight
.I am working to produce a ratcheting mast track that can be adjusted under load, can't believe that it has not beeen done already.

Thinking along the Starboard line. The old raceboard is a custom board made by Jim French for Arthur Brett's World Cup campaign way back, it's relatively narrow with V in the back so not real quick to plane and heavily built in Carbon Kevlar composites. It was designed to handle high winds and waves and made strong which makes it a bit heavy, so it was never really succesful.

Yeah the wind was up before you guys started, I didn't want to get there too much before you all, so I started over 1/2 an hour later after the elite Skis. But the wind died out and I only got planing for about 15 minutes of the 2 1/2 hour trip, keeping balance heading as deep downwind as I could was the hardest part, probably nearly as hard as the SUP ![]()

Maybe it depends on your definition of success :) Most longboards seem to really suck in high winds. JF seems to have everything right, I would install a WOD centreboard casette in my JF but it doesn't sort of fit with the overall design ..
