I am sailing Gooodwin Sands speed strip tomorrow - Thursday 14th Jan. Anyone else going to be around?
Launching the boat from the Karbethong ramp at about 7am.
Low tide about 8am. Might get an even sail on that low tide as well.
Despite really solid forecasts, the wind didn't really turn up. A few brief puffs to a maximum of about 25 knots over a couple of hours and then nothing. The wind come in briefly around 3pm, right on high tide but was gone by the time the tide started dropping again. Still had fun though.
I'm pretty keen to do a 3 day weekend dash to Mallacoota if the forecast looks good. I'd like to sail with you blokes and would hope that any difference of opinion about GPSTC/KA72 in other threads wouldn't stop us all catching up for some speed strip blasting. I'm not familiar with the required conditions, but gathering from the previous posts, it's low tide on a strong Southerly? Please keep me posted if you're heading there. Cheers, Nigel
The Goodwin Sands speed strip works on SW. Really need a boat to get there. Hire boats are available at Karbethong.
The entrance works on South.
I am watching forecasts for next weekend and early next week but they are flipping all over the place at the moment. Hopefully that will firm a up by late this week and there is something attractive. ![]()

Nice. Thanks man. I'll keep an eye on it too.
