Thought I would share some pics each day for the next two weeks of our Maui trip. We just got here and it was a solid 25 knots from 2pm onwards, with some head high sets at Kihei. As of this Sunday there will be a crew of 8 Vics here which is great!
Solid again today at Kihei, around 25 - 30 knots on 4.2 a bit over powered. First few pics are from Hookipa. These two below where having a nap right at the launch spot of Hookipa.
Ah Maui, the memories.... Where are you staying and for how long??
My first time was way back in 1994 when windsurfing was really going off, a quiet spot on Maui would still have over a 100 boards on the water at any time. The vibe at the time was unbelievable...
BaywaveBill, plenty of wind mate. Was on 4.2m again all afternoon...and uppers had some solid north swell, mostly chest to shoulder but was head high late afternoon. Great that you are coming, see you when you get here.
Nah that isn't me in the Hookipa pics. I didn't sail Hookipa, the pics make it look a lot better than it really was. In fact there were only 2 guys out the whole time I was there. It was actually pretty messy and lumpy between the waves, and the waves were not really clean or lining up hence why no one was out.
You are right, south swell has been awesome for the last 6 days. We surfed this morning in ~5 foot clean waves for a couple of hours at Kihei with these bad boys before heading to the north shore to go windsurfing
Very windy again on the north side, 32-37 knots, half mast waves at uppers.
So, thats it for Ian and myself. Sailed 12/13 days on < 5m and SUP'd twice.
Day 1 - 4.2m Day 2 - 4.2m Day 3 - 4.2m Day 4 - 3.3m Day 5 - Didn't sail, SUP instead. Day 6 - SUP in AM, 3.7m Day 7 - 3.7m Day 8 - 4.7m Day 9 - 4.2m Day 10 - 4.2m Day 11 - 4.7m Day 12 - 4.2m Day 13 - 4.2m
First week we had nice big 2m+ swell on both the north and south shores. The last 4 days the swell has gradually diminished to virtually nothing today.
