Inverloch Windsurfing Club's no.1 member, Club Legend, previous Olympic and world champion and all time great girl
- Allison Shreeve is in Melbourne racing for Olympic selection at the ISAF Sailing World Cup. The RSX/RS1 will be racing 11th and 12th November and the field in the men's, women's and junior's will boast racers from all over the world.
Check out details at www.sailmelbourne.com.au/
Its kind of dissapointing that this is happenning in our doorstep but the mainstream media don't even blink!
Racing is not everyone's cuppa but its a strong field...and hopefully there's going to be a bit of breeze about!
in the women's you've got the 2 UK rockets- Bryony Shaw and Izzy Hamilton as well as our Olympic hopefuls- Allison and Jessica.
Ally is staying at the famous Chateau de Edithvale- (ie my house) and she's keen! If she wins this, she's well on her way to the Olympics.
Go get 'em, Ally!![]()
She's down already....picking up a new RSX from SHQ today!
Training today, tomorrow and Saturday, then racing from Monday onwards
Please refer to the photo below as one example. This shows how much of a champion Allison is, by helping out with the Windsurfing Victoria Kids Club last Sunday. For more information, follow the other forum threeds.

Allison is a great champion, to take time out of her busy training and race testing schedule to give back to the kids in our sport - the future.
Big congrats Ali and total respect![]()

Eat 'em up in the races Ali
Guys what we have here is a failure to communicate.
She sails Olympic RS:X Class and is a champion at that, however it is true that she is not an "olympian" by the true sense of the word. She might be soon though:)
It doesn't make her any less a great sailor.
Windsufering - although you were right, your tones a bit off, can you please show some more tact next time when correcting our elders? I am sure that the difference could have been explained with a little more class.
Smiles all round.....windsurfing fills me with happiness too!
Update from the racing
Day 1- light and patchy breeze- 2 races- Ally got a blinder of a start on race 1, but there was a general recall from the fleet after she'd already past the start gate. In the restart she got caught on port and had to go under some of the fleet. Finishing position: 7th.
In race 2- the breeze got light and she finished 5th.
Day 2- was called off due to late start and lack of wind.
Today is looking interesting around noon, with a nice big storm cell building out west.
Greetings Windsurfering - it is great to see that a simple statement has caused so much fracca amongst a few. Passion in our sport is always great to see.
So lets sort this out for all to understand. I agree with you that I was wrong
as I misread a statement from Ali's website. Just to clarify for all she is not a "previous olympic champion" as I stated but an olympic and formula CLASS Oceanic and South America Champion 2006.
Windsufering understand, this thread is not about one or two words but it is about the fact that no media was being given to the Olympic Racing trials happening here in Melbourne. In the RSX class we have two world class Australian female windsurfers and a host of female Internationals all racing and preparing for the 2012 Olympics. It was about informing the windsurfing community what was happening on our back door. TOP SHELF racing with a class field. The post was also about the fact that we had Inverloch Windsurfing Club's No.1 member, who has the honour of receiving the club's highly prized "LEGEND" status, taking part in these races. "LEGEND" status at IWC is a very difficult membership status to achieve and Allison received it "for her guts and determination in attempting to cross Bass Strait." Only one other person in the club has achieved this status and that is the mighty Kato for his 24 hrs sailing clocking up over 550 kms. These two windsurfers are IWC's true LEGENDS.
Seeing we are clarifying matters here, I think it is worthwhile checking out Allison's full credentials and understand what a true CHAMPION she is

Drift:
"Ally got a blinder of a start on race 1, but there was a general recall from the fleet after she'd already past the start gate. "
What are the rules about "general recalls from the fleet"?
I only know the shoutings of "STARBOARD!" ![]()
generals are only given for two real reasons
1 theres to many people over and they can not fairly identify enough people or
2 there was a fault on the race organisers side for example a very bias start line
they should be given as quick as possible ,but if the start boat is unsure it is better to rerun the start then let to many get away with it
