Having a coffee conversation this morning about shed kit.... so thought I'd do a survey.
Please add the list of kit (that you no longer use) in your shed that could be better used by someone else who is just starting out.
I have five sails, two masts, two extensions, a winter suit, a spring suit and a shorty....
Cant even get in my shed:
10 surfboards
3 windsurfers
1 SUP
8 SAILS
ok its not all redundant but its turning into a great collection
Just build a bigger shed. That's what I've spent last month doing. 6.5m x 4.5 m for spare gear. But agree someone could use some of the gear. Hoping the kids will get onto some of my spare boards.
Hey GP, I think Dan is chasing some gear.
He only has one sail and a mast that requires six people to pull apart..... and his extension is a 1788 model....
Im a bit of a Windsurfing Magpie .
13 boards ranging from 80's mistral comp to 43 liter speed board ,
13 sails from 4 wave to 10.8 big sucker .
3 x 460 1x 430 2x 400 1x 380 1 x 520 1x 490 masts
7 booms
I suffer from Finisitous , last count 47 fins mostly tuttle some power , mix of weed and slalom/speed, range from a 20 cm vector ex to a 75cm monster Curtis weed fin . Some real gems in there C3's, Time machine etc .
heaps of bits and a dedicated windsurfing gear trailer .
Oh yeah 5 surfboards all nice longboards, Mactavish , Wengener hollow timber, 12 foot Howard Hughes,
1 x Naish 11'6 SUP and 2 x paddles .
oh yeah forgot a flying junior sailboat for teaching kids to sail .
Like the guy at the end of this vid says !!
I am a gear minimalist, got rid of most of the excess ages ago and became a purist.
3 sails, 4 boards, 2 masts and one boom.
Less is more and more is less.
Cheers Kurt. I'l talk to Dan.
The thinking behind this thread was that the kit in sheds does nothing for the sport... and flies in the face of people saying the sport is expensive when we're all prepared to keep so much kit we don't use.
If we could have an amnesty this spring, then we could get a lot more people on the water.
Even if people don't sell their kit but loan a rig to a learning mate for the season till their hooked then that could work too. After all, most drug dealers give the first few hits for free.
