Time for a weekend wrap!
Sailed at Rye yesterday. I hadn't sailed there since the days of my trusty Bic Electric Rock. I really enjoyed it. Lots of people, variety in the water conditions (flattish on the inside/small waves further out)
- saw quite a few seabreezers out there.

Today was a bonus sail. (didnt expect 2 days in a row but wifey took kids to see Harry Plopper at the movies, so there was my hall pass) Had a great sail at Bonbeach.
... and to top it off, the weather was great and the wind was still there.

Victoria beautiful one day, perfect the next!

Who else sailed both days and where?
Any photo's?

I have been out windsurfing just about every weekend so far this winter. This winter has been great. I sailed rye today and yesterday. When I rocked up yestdy it looked like the good old days when ya would see about 30 windsurfers out every weekend in winter at rye. There were like only 2 kiteboys out but I think they went home early they looked abit scared seen all the windsurfers around them. They did not know what the fuss was about. Rye has been great but I am starting to miss my southwester beaches. g i wonder whats happend to the swester cold front?? all we get now is northlys, northlys an more northlys.

now all we need now is the wind to turn south for spring and summer and blow just as good

I too have sailed nearly every weekend for about the last 3 months. It has been one of the windiest and luckiest winters that I can ever remember. Without fail, we have had northerlies every week, and by some fluke they have *always* fallen on a weekend

Only 6 weeks to go before spring starts!!! and soon the water temp is going to go in the upwards direction

The bay temp starts to rise about August 15 (I often think its about one month from the solstice to Melbourne's coldest day, then another month to the bays coldest day...)

See:

I sailed Mt Martha on Sat and it was brilliant. Just wish i could jump better on starboard tack.

Yep thats right, mid august is the turning point. Looking at the graphs, 2004 was a particularly cold year with the water hitting its low (nearly down to 10 degrees) at the end of June already..

Very cool, was hoping someone would catch the action sometime. Particularly like the sunset shots. That's me on the cover shot with the RPS sticker and blue/white voodoo. Will have to save that to favourites. Saw someone with a large telephoto camera as I came in at sunset, guessing that was you emjack?

Yeah Sat. was great! Best turn out I've seen and it was high tide thankfully. Recognised Bondalucci, Mrwindsurf and Spotty screaming past everyone as usual.

Got a morning sail off Mt. Eliza this morning before Uni. with a nice consistant 28-32knots.

Cheers guys!

Leman - No, wasn't me. Maybe Jodi from Whitecaps?

There's a fair bit of shake in the video. A cheap tripod just doesn't cut it (and the fact that I was anxious to get out there myself)...hopefully next time I'll have something better.

Great job Evan. You'll have to get a waterproof housing and bolt the thing to your helmet!!

yeah bondy, great weekend for it. I saw you on saturday sailing up near the pier end at rye (i have a carve and a green and black kaos). i went to rye on sunday as well and conned me wife and girls into coming to have a look by saying "nah its not cold at all". They didn't last to long but we had to take 2 cars so i got to "loose track of time". i payed for it when i got home , but hey, it's worth it!

Great vid EJ - looked like a blast. I managed to get down on Sunday arvo. Wind up and down - but good to get in the water and get the blood circulating again. Felt like somebody had battered me with a plank of wood this morning though...age related.

Haha, I remember you telling me you were on a tight schedule on Saturday as well. Guess we do what we can to get our fix.

And mrwindsurf: I did say you should bring your camera.

Lol, often up past midnight. Life of a Uni. student without a wife or kids.

There we go, used the video to get a new avatar.

Thanks everyone....hopefully they improve with each one. I especially enjoy the editing part of it all. Good footage would really help.

Old Salty - shame I didn't get any of that Kode/Ezzy rider. I must have been doing something else while he was out.

Jodi - curious to know who may have been taking the pictures if it wasn't you?

Bondi - the Go Pro's seem to do a good job mounted somewhere on the gear or rider. I guess the plus is I could then sail and film at the same time. Although only really from one perspective.

Hopefully more good wind this weekend (that's not jinx'in it right?)!

Hmm think Sat looks the better day. More consistant at least. Sunday is looking to be one of those "wind will change at anytime or drop out" days. Still too far to be accurate yet. If the forecast holds I might get a decent westerly sail before Uni. on Monday off Mornington pier, be nice to have head on waves for once.

Hmm changed again....

Forecast for Saturday
Winds: North to northwesterly 20 to 25 knots easing to 15 to 20 knots during
the morning before increasing to 20 to 25 knots later in the day. Seas: 1 to
1.5 metres.

Forecast for Sunday
Winds: North to northwesterly 20 to 25 knots tending westerly at 20 to 25 knots
during the afternoon before easing to 15 to 20 knots at night. Seas: Mostly 1
to 1.5 metres.

Seems Sat might only be ok late in the day so probably not worth the trip to Rye. Sunday is looking better and more westerly. Who's heading that way on Sunday?

Ok, so I went to Rye - NO ONE there, not sure why, was v windy and seemed cross-off. Stayed till 1.30 (it seems from above posts I missed an arvo session?)

Then spotted some Kites, so not a complete wasted trip. Had multiple memory card problems and filled 2 GB card in no time, just as everyone was hitting the water) and raced home to download. 2GB is just 1/4 of what I am used to using. Sigh.

Downloaded pics and as it was still early (2.30) I dashed to Green Point to find only a handful of guys (and gals out). Missed most the the action, wind not as strong as Rye and seemed to drop out when I was there. Took a few pics, so will upload those in couple of days.

250km day!

Have fun tomorrow am working until 3.30-4ish, if it is good out around this time please feel free to text me ;)

Yeah I went out at Mornington because i didn't expect it to be that good. Ended up being a constant 20-25knots.

May go to Rye today if wind holds, but the forecast has dropped again from a day ago. Fingers crossed.
