Windsurfer LT and R300 State Titles will be held at Sandy Bay Sailing Club on 16-17 March 2019.

This event is being run by SBSC with assistance from Windsurfing Tasmania.

Notice of Race and other details will be formalised in the coming days.

Windsurfer Class will include all models of Windsurfer One Design, including the LT, with the standard Windsurfer Rig

R300 will include Bic Techno 293, Starboard Phantom 295, Neil Pryde RS etc, with max sail size of 8.5m

Maybe we could rustle up a Techno for you to race if you have an 8.5 to put on it.

How rigidly are you enforcing OD. Can non OD and mast be used?

Is it just the mast that is non OD, or the board also?

If it is just the non-stock mast, that should be fine Relic....as long as it isn't some rdm 100% carbon thing that weights nothing. I have a mast which is pretty close that I could lend you if needed.

The intent it to be a little flexible without giving anyone an unfair advantage.

with a lot of your old windsurfing mates that gave up in the 90,s now out to have some fun. , T. Jones, A. sharman, C. bridges etc. Poly maybe?? maybes???
worth going along if you have a OD and its your thing..

Mast (60% carbon SDM), boom (Severne alloy) and sail (1988 NP 6.0) non OD. Board second gen swing centreboard OD. Looking for a more recent OD sail to beg or borrow to train with up till and to use for the event perhaps.
Tried my 1979 Dacron OD sail and boom; don't know how I ever managed to sail with that rig. Baggy old Dacron that weighs 3 x when wet and a boom that fills up with water!!!
Anyone know how to stop the pesky centreboard from dropping when you are on a screaming reach making the board round up and slamming you into the drink?

This is serious stuff Damien. Old scores to be settled, showing the young kids who's boss, give way to starboard or you'll get a protest etc

They are a blast for sure. I had a go on Ben Sigmar's LT the other day and I was super impressed. The LT is very impressive indeed.

About 13 starters are on the books at this stage over the two classes.

I Agree. The Desighners have come up with a winner. Stable, light easy to sail and affordable.
I was lucky enough to get a quick sail on the LT Friday evening courtecey of Jo Chau.
All its attributes have been said. I've got nothing to add, apart from my belief this product has the potential to reignite windsurfing like it exploded here in the late 70's & 80's when it was not uncommon to See 30-40 Windsurfers sailing at Sandy Bay. The social scene that developed along with it was amazing holding some of my fondest memories from my teenage years. I'm certain many people have fond memories of those times too. I'm hopeful of a return to that friendly community atmosphere where the next generation can again participate in our great sport in the affordable way we did and form some life long friendships, participating in a sport that brings people together creating good times to remember forever.

At this stage there are 4 likely starters in the R300, and about 8-10 in the Windsurfer Class.

To anyone intending to join Windsurfing Tasmania who is not already a member, you can join as a SOCIAL member at $35 (not $50 for full competitor rate).

Ideally, anyone wanting to join is asked to do it by email prior to the weekend (meaning there is less for us to organise on the day).

Wind is looking perfect- 5-10 knots in the morning and 10-15 knots in the afternoon on both days.

This will give an ideal mix of conditions for all the sailors and boards.

For those who are not used to racing around the buoys, please check the notice of race (NOR) for times, equipment, rules etc.

Saturday 16 March 2019 Registration 0830 to 0900
Saturday 16 March 2019 Class briefings 0900
Saturday 16 March 2019 Race day 1 First Warning Signal 1000

AS there are a whole bundle of classes and competitors, it will be more tightly organised than a typical WT "off the beach" event.

For example- PFDs are a requirment (as is the case with any Australian Sailing or WT flatwater event).

Also might be worth brushing up on the racing rules generally.
